That concludes the Lakoseljac Cup action for today. Recapping the sides through to the Round of 16 with the 8 NPL clubs and Knights/Somerset. Winning today were University, Riverside, Ulverstone, Taroona, New Town and Hobart United. In the Summer Series it was Knights stunning South Hobart 5-1. Regardless of who was missing, that’s a result that is going to send a few shock waves.

5:20pm- Full Time: Riverside 1-0 Metro,

5:20pm Ulverstone claim the shoot out and advance to the round of 16

5:06pm- Penalty shoot out is looming on the coast. Ulverstone and Burnie locked at 2-2 after 120 minutes. Burnie are down to 9 men! But in spite of that they still rallied back to level it, twice!

5:04pm- GOAL! 1-0 Riverside Ryan Mccaragher scores a screamer and the visitors from the North have taken a late lead!

4:50pm In the Summer Series, its Glenorchy Knights 5-1 South Hobart at half time. The Knights are thumping South Hobart at the half. I suspect Hugh Ludford’s wedding might be at play here, few players missing out of the South best XI. Happy nuptials to the old war horse anyway, hopefully a better day than his teammates are experiencing at present!

4:41pm- Full Time: University 3-1 Beachside The Students march through to the next round. They’ll be hoping for a kinder draw next time around but on this performance, they are set to be a force in 2018.

4:30pm- Switching to the Summer Series and midway through the first half it’s Knights leading a a\very young South side 3-1.

4:27pm- Full Time Ulverstone 1-1 Burnie: The Coastal derby is headed to extra time!

4:20pm- Full Time: Taroona 10-0 Launceston United It’s all over at Birch Avenue and Taroona claim the comfortable win.

4:15pm- Meanwhile at North Chigwell there has been no breakthrough in the first half between Metro and Riverside. A very tight game that may be decided by a goal either way in the second half.

4:15pm- Make that Taroona 10-0 Launceston United.

4:10pm- Taroona 9-0 Launceston United Taroona continuing to add goals as the rout continues at Birch Avenue.

3:55pm- University 3-0 Beachside University score a third goal and are surely through to the next round, was expecting a much closer game than this but University have been immense.

3:48pm- Half Time: Ulverstone 1-0 Burnie. Ulverstone have the lead at half time over their coastal rivals Burnie after 45 minutes of action.

3:46pm- Taroona 7-0 Launceston United Well Taroona have been in good form so far this preseason but this is a bit unexpected, a massive margin at Birch Avenue and Taroona have booked their passage through to the next round. United are down to 10 men which is obviously contributing to the heavy scoreline.

3:40pm- A delayed kick off due to the penalty shoot out in the earlier game, but Metro v Riverside is now underway.

3:30pm- Might be a wet second half at Olinda Grove, the rain starting to come down and it might set in for a while. Though with Hobart’s weather who knows?!

3:26pm- Half Time at Olinda Grove, University leading Beachside 2-0. The Students on track to progress after a strong first half from the home side, but Beachside have had enough moments to give themselves hope for the second 45. University deservedly ahead though.

3:23pm- Hobart United claim the penalty shootout and advance through the Round of 16!

3:20pm- Meanwhile moving away from the cup for a moment, Devonport Strikers have beaten Northern Rangers 4-0 in a friendly between the Championship sides and 2-0 in an NPL friendly.

3:08pm- Seems like we are heading to penalties to decide the Nelson v Hobart United game.

3:04pm- University 1-0 Beachside The Students have taken the lead midway through the first half at Olinda Grove.

2:46pm- Half time in extra time and it remains 1-1 between Nelson and Hobart United. 15 minutes to go and then penalties if they can’t be split.

2:41pm- Kick off at Olinda Grove as Beachside and University clash in the game of the day. Also underway up North as Burnie meet Ulverstone and Launceston United play Taroona.

Scences! Nelson level it up at the death- Solstice Photography

2:28pm! Nelson 1-1 Hobart United Oh what drama! Cup drama seems to follow Nelson and they’ve conjured some here. Sam John has smashed it, scoring seconds from full time and denied Hobart United the win. To extra time we head.

2:21pm- Full Time New Town Eagles 4-0 Southern FC Another late goal and the Eagles end with a crushing victory over Southern FC. They go through to the Round of 16 comfortably. Thanks to Matthew Rhodes, Linda Higginson, Benjamin Smith and David Mirtle for their roving reporting  updates coming in today.

It’s the gig clash up next as Beachside and University prepare to do battle. Three other games kicking off shortly too as the action really heats up.

2:06pm- Nelson pressing hard now and having the better of the play but they have been unable to find a way to conjure the equaliser. Inside the final 10 minutes now, time becoming an enemy

2:00pm- Nelson come within a whisker of tying the game but the Hobart United keeper has produced a superb save to maintain their lead.

1:47pm- GOAL! 3-0 New Town Eagles The Eagles are all but through to the next round extending their lead to three. They’ve been all over Southern and the score is reflecting it.

1:35pm- Second half’s about to get underway, can Southern and Nelson fight back? Or will it be Hobart United and New Town in the round of 16?

1:20pm- HALF TIME Hobart United 1-0 Nelson United with the lead at the half after Riak’s conversion from the penalty spot. Nelson have had their moments though and this is a game that remains very much in the balance. You’d expect more goals to follow in the second stanza.

1:16pm- GOAL! 2-0 New Town Eagles A huge double strike before the half time, the Eagles have made a decisive move here as Southern FC lose their defensive concentration just before the break. Schackloth the man who has scored both of the goals and New Town are well on their way to the next round. HALF TIME

1:12pm- GOAL! 1-0 New Town Eagles  The Eagles have taken the lead at Olinda Grove shortly before half time. They’ve had the better of the first half and finally find a way to put it on the scoreboard.

1:02pm- GOAL 1-0! Hobart United United take the lead from the penalty spot, 25 minutes into the game. Riaq continuing his strong preseason as he slides it home from the spot.

12:45pm- No goals here at Chigwell and no goals up the mountain either. Beautiful day for football this, the sun is shining and the democracy sausages have been out in full force.

12:30pm- First two games of the day now underway with Nelson up against Hobart United at North Chigwell and Southern FC against New Town at Olinda Grove.

10:00am- Good morning and welcome to the matchday blog as the Lakoseljac Cup returns for 2018 with six games slated for this afternoon. Two are kicking off at 12:30pm, with the other four underway at 2:30pm: you can check out the full preview of the action here.

Of course it’s a big day in Tasmania with the state election, so head to the ballot, grab yourself a democracy sausage and then get along to the football for what should be a cracking day of Cup action. I am particularly looking forward to the University v Beachside game. That was an absolute classic in the Summer Cup on Sunday and with both sides looking evenly matched, it looks the pick of the ties.
