Full Time- Clarence 0-0 Northern Rangers! I am reliably informed that is only the fourth scoreless draw in the history of the competition. And given the way the game panned out I am rather stunned that it ended that way! Match Report to follow.

90′ Clarence with a nice move down the right, Heggie getting a toe to a ball to direct it into the path of Robb who carries it and drives a cross into the box but can’t quite pick out Hallard.

86′ Shot off! Matt Lewis tries his luck with a powerfully struck volley from the top of the box but it flies well over the bar.

82′ Slice of Cheese for Dent for a very late challenge on Robb.

81′ Heggie with an acrobatic bicycle kick clearance to see the ball away from Lanau-Atkinson who was prepping to smash a volley home if it reached him.

79′ Shot on! Grant Malcolm with a curling, dipping free kick from  35 yards out that was heading top window before Connolly got over and clawed it away. Clarence now starting to dial up the pressure and pump some balls into the area, but the Rangers defence is holding firm.

This could be heading for one of  the most unlikely 0-0’s you’ll see, both teams have played in an attacking manner and there have been plenty of chances and goal mouth action, but neither side has been able to find a way to stick it in the back of the net.

76 SUB- Griffeion off for Appleyard

74′ Stuart picks the pocket of Tenzing Anderson and wins a corner for his side in the process. Swung in by Hallard but collected by Connolly who shows a safe pair of hands under physical pressure from 2 Clarence attackers.

71′ Shot off! An indirect free kick in the box, not something you see every day! Gets blocked by Demar, the rebound falls to Rodriguez who blasts over the top.

70′ Can see why Clarence were talking up Demar all pre season, he has been a rock at the back today and made a heap of timely interventions. Just so intelligent the way he reads the game.

69- SUB- Sam Randall comes on for Nick Naden.

66′ Nick Lanau Atkinson beats Malcolm all ends up with some quick feet to jink around him, he passes to Thannhaser who works it to Jin who has some space on the left hand side of the box but his shot gets well blocked by Demar.

65′ Great tracking back from Fulton to get in ahead of Robb after Hallard looked like he had set him up with a shooting lane at the top of the box.

64′ Sub- Dent comes on for Jones. Jones had gestured to bench moments earlier and appears to have copped a knock.

This game has really opened up in the last few minutes, frenetic pace and end to end action. A mystery as to how this game remains locked at 0-0. The Robb sub has certainly added something for Clarence, they have had some of their best moments of the half since he came on.

62′ Shot off! Rodriguez now comes close from the angle as Rangers counter back the other way, he had a tight angle to fire from and couldn’t quite thread the needle.

61′ Shot on! A surging Stuart gets in behind the lines and one on one with the keeper but his shot can’t  quite find a way past Connolly and the multiple Rangers defenders scrambling back. Big chance goes begging there.

59′ SUB- An attacking move from Jablonski as he takes off Aitken and brings on a winger in Andrew Robb to replace him. It almost works immediately as he makes inroads down the left and finds Burgess with his cross, but his shot is well blocked and Rangers clear the area.

55′ Shot off! Darrant pulls an effort wide after a sublime through ball from Lanau-Atkinson sprung him in behind the defence. Malcolm hustled to catch up and did enough to put him off. A Slice of Cheese was given to Demar for an infringement earlier in the attacking move.

53′ Rangers had a couple of long range free kick chances but the first was driven wide and the second into the wall. Rangers picking up where they left off, looking the more likely side and putting pressure on the Clarence defence, who are standing up well under pressure so far, Malcolm and Demar have looked strong.

46′ Shot on! Nick La with some nice skill to get the better of Naden before he crosses to the back post where Rodriguez loops a header that almost dips in, but is nodded behind for a corner.

Pretty entertaining first 45 minutes of football here at KGV, Rangers have started to get on top the closer we got towards half time and a number of those shots in the last 15 minutes came awfully close to nestling in the back of the net. The pace of Jin is causing them serious problems, a number of times he has surged past Naden, and he is no slouch in the pace department. End product has just been slightly off for them though, so 0-0 it remains. Not that Clarence didn’t come close themselves, they’ve had a couple of good chances to go ahead that could so easily have gone in. Should lend itself to a good second half, not much between them and both look capable of goals.

HALF TIME! Clarence 0-0 Northern Rangers

44′ Shot off! Inches away this time, Darrant again along the ground and just wide of the post from outside the box. Jin once again created the chance, he has been dynamite down the left, absolute searing pace. His crossed was blocked into Darrant’s path but once again the shot was past the post.

40′ Shot off! Darrant with some nice work in midfield to create an opening for Jin who drives a shot from outside the box that slides just wide of the post.

35′ Shot on! Another regulation save for Randall in the end as Jin cuts onto his left and curls one straight at him after some fast feet from Darrant set him up.

33′ Shot off! From the counter attack Heggie tears down the left, drives into the box and fires a low powerful shot that just goes wide of the near post. He has posed a threat from the wide left so far.

32′ Shot off! A cross from Jin is met by the head of Darrant and he gets good purchase but it’s just wide of the post!

31′ Jin Seong-Young has looked lively up top for Rangers and appears a good pick up, his dribbling skills look a handful. He is fouled by Naden on the left side outside the box. The resulting free kick is driven with power by Lanau-Atkinson but Randall makes the stop.

25′ Shot off! Lewis swings in a dipping ball to the back post which Heggie volleys and it deflects wide of the goal. Clarence starting to get on top of proceedings. They have already won 5 corners, though not threatened from any yet. Pretty open game, with both sides looking to take the attack to each other.

Jake Stuart and Harry Thannhauser the stand out players so far, both having the biggest impact carrying the ball forward and looking to make things happen for their respective sides.

19′ Thannhasuer threads through a perfect through ball for Nick LA but Demar was awake to the threat and made ground quickly to smash it behind for a corner.

11′ Shot on! Great save Connolly! he denies Stuart at close range after he got on the end of a curling free kick from the wing by Heggie. Rangers had enjoyed the better of the first 10 mins, but that was the best chance yet.

6′ Shot on! Not a threatening one but Thannhauser fires off the first shot in anger with a left footed drive from outside the box, but it’s an easy save for Randall. Bit of a feeling out period early in this one, end to end, but neither side creating anything of note so far.

1′ Kick Off! We’re underway at KGV!

Welcome to KGV for the final game of round 1 in the NPL Tasmania between Clarence and Northern Rangers, Andrew Cooling bringing this one to you. Both know this a great chance to get early points on the board and will be looking to kick things off in the best possible fashion. Rangers only win of  the 2016 season came on the final day of the season against Clarence who took out the 2 earlier meetings between the sides. Personnel wise, a couple of major ins for Clarence in the form of Matthew Lewis and Odaine Demar, who should improve their spine, as will having Bremner available all season(though apparently not today, he is a late scratching). Rangers have made an upgrade in net with John Connolly coming into the team as an international import and they will love having their star man Nick Lanau-Atkinson fit again. He scored a stunning free kick the last time the two sides met on this ground, can he produce similar fire works this time around, or will it be the Reds who take the points? Teams
