FULL TIME: Clarence 2-1 Launceston City

90+1′ Shot off! Naden with a nice run into the box, cuts onto his left but blasts it wide.

90′ Shot off! It spills to Bremner who drives a powerful shot across the face, not far away from sealing it there.

Sub- Kamano comes on for City, replacing Compagne.

87′ Shot off! Egan drives one over the top from distance. Had power, but not direction.

Clarence just about holding on here, Launceston pressing hard but not finding a way through.

86′ Suspicions of hand ball in the Clarence box, but City’s rather loud protests are waved away.

Sub- Rees comes on for Heggie.

83′ O’Connor swings in a free kick to beyond the back post, Williams is in space but his acrobatic volley is well over.

82′ Shot on! Dylan Williams curls a free kick but Randall dives to his left to protect his near post and puts it behind for a corner.

81′ SUB- Aitken replaces Robb. A holding midfielder for an attacker, Clarence looking to protect their lead and see this contest out.

A stoppage here as Heggie gets some treatment. This game has swung around big time in the second half, Clarence have been good value for their goals and City have faded out of the contest and lacked the threat they had in the first 45

75′ GOAL! 2-1 Clarence, Bremner on hand to turn home one from close range after the ball was played in from the left.

74′ Smith makes a super save diving low to his left. A sea of bodies in the box, somehow a shot was fashioned and Smith did superbly.

72′ Randall denies Campbell who got his shot away under duress from Malcolm, fired from the angle but Randall had his positioning right and makes the leg save.

67′ GOAL! Naden strokes it home after a manic few moments. Hedge smashes a header from the corner which Smith somehow keeps out, then the rebound was blasted into the cross bar from the edge of the box before it finally fell to Naden to level things up!

Sub- Irishman Kyle Kelly enters the fray for his debut, replacing Mies.

64′ A long range free kick is swung into the box where Heggie gets up and make solid contact

61′ Heggie goes into the book for dissent, in his defence, the free kick paid against him was very harsh.

58′ Cleared off the line! Compagne I think was the one who got back to make a tremendous sliding block on the line. Smith had come off his line and not made it before Jake Stuart who took it past him, and tried to fire a shot from outside the box but it didn’t quite have enough to sneak home. He seemed to have been clipped slightly by the keeper when rounding him so probably should have been a slice of cheese.

57′ Shot on! Williams curls a free kick from long range which Randall tracks back and tips over the bar.

51′ Two solid pieces of defending from Grant Malcolm thwarts two separate City attacking moves. Timely interventions in the area on both occasions. He and Hedge have impressed at the back for Clarence. With Demar and Lewis both out, they are showing they have plenty of depth in that area.

47′ Naden with a nice through ball for Robb but Smith was sharp off his line to get there.

Sub- Smith for Smith, a change in goals by the looks of it for City. not sure why. Hallard has come on for Randall for Clarence.

City ahead at the half but Clarence have had a couple of moments to get back into the game, so plenty of reason for optimism for them, this game is far from over. City have looked the more threatening of the two sides so far. Interestingly they have opted for a back three, with plenty of attacking players out there.

HALF TIME! Launceston City 1-0 Clarence

44′ Slice of Cheese! Bremner slides in trying to get the ball first but he slams into the keeper who stays down hurt. A city defender also got booked for dissent from the resulting scuffle.

43′ Shot off! Linger with some nice work on the left to cross to Campbell who volleys over the bar.

40′ Shot on! Clarence with a great chance to pull back level but Randall doesn’t make sufficient contact with his shot from 10 yards. Stuart did well to beat a defender and work it to Robb, who cushioned the chance for Randall but on his non preferred his shot lacks conviction.

39′ Campbell with some very sharp work down the right, showing some skill to get around Malcolm but Price clears his ball into the box.

33′ Game getting bogged down a bit here, scrappy affair with neither side really in the ascendancy. A lot of fouls and offsides disrupting any real flow to the game.

24′ Bremner back on, and probably should have had a penalty! He turned sharply in the box, drew some contact, hit the deck, but the ref says nothing doing.

22′ Shot off! Compagne with a sharp turn but his shot lacks the same quality and is well wide.

21’Bremner with a lot of blood coming out of his head! He tried to dive down low for a header but Goold swung his boot at it and collected a lot of his head as well as the ball. It was very low down so fair call saying no penalty but Bremner has come off the worse for wear. Looked like it would have hurt.

18′ Shot off! Bremner blazes over the top with an optimistic strike from range.

15′ Randall has twice made good strong catches to cut off crosses in the box. City having some jot in wide areas early in this one, their pace is causing some problems.

11′ GOAL! 1-0 City, Compagne opens the scoring, Dylan O’Connor who was released by Linger cuts it back to him in the middle of the box and from close range he makes no mistake!

9′ Campbell slides to try reach the ball as Randall charges out after it, Campbell got there first but the contact was minimal and Randall is able to dive back on top it. City shading the opening few moments but Clarence look like they could cause some problems on the counter.

5′ Chances pretty sparse early on, end to end contest with both sides looking to move it forward quickly but no cutting edge for either side, or chances in the game yet.

1′ Kick off, we’re underway.

Clarence taking on Launceston City. Both sides followed up promising opening round efforts with a step backwards in week 2, as both sides fell to fairly comfortable defeats. Like Rangers Clarence will be looking to hit the back of the net for the first time this season and need to find some supporters to work with target man Paul Bremner up top. Nick Naden who has been at left back for the first 2 rounds could be an option to push further forward and provide that required fire power. Launceston City will welcome a new Irish import in the form of Kyle Kelly but having just arrived, whether he is ready to start already remains to be seen. Their other imports, Dylan O’Connor and Williams were well held against Devonport and will need to have more of an influence on the contest if they are to claim victory from a venue they visited twice last season, for a 2-0 defeat and 2-2 draw.
