Clarence v Taroona (WSL)

Full Time

CLARENCE 0

TAROONA 1

Full Time- Taroona hold on to claim the three points but they were given an almighty fright by a Clarence side who just put in their best performance of the season, they just didn’t put away chances they should have and ultimately pay the price for it.

85′ In the dying moments here and Clarence are pushing hard, an athletic save from Ottavi has kept it 1-0 but the Reds are surging right now and getting plenty of balls into the area.

70′ Should be 1-1, a spill from Ottavi at the back presented an empty net to Roy once again, though this time under pressure from a defender, but she skies it over the bar. Clarence should be back on terms. Then Goss had a chance but smashed it into the side netting, Clarence suddenly knocking on the door after Taroona had enjoyed a spell of dominance with Bremner almost making it 2-0.

55′ 1-0 Taroona! A somewhat fortunate opening goal as an attempted clearance deflected off Blackwood Coyle and into the back of the net.

50′ Ayton smashed the post with a curling effort, then minutes later did everything but apply the finish as she skipped past defenders before pulling her effort wide. Taroona have dominated the early going in the second half  but have been unable to find a way to score yet.

Half Time Update

It’s all square at half time here in a pretty even contest, Taroona have had more of the ball and have generated more chances but Clarence had a couple of great looks and really should have gone 1-0 ahead if not for a howler of a miss, when Roy struck it wide with the net wide open and Ottavi out of the picture. As the half wore on Taroona started to get on top but Dixon was imperious at the back and the midfield did a great job getting bodies back. Adelyn Ayton has been surrounded everytime she has touched the ball, has still made things happen, but she is being marked very carefully. This one really could go either way as we head into the second half
