Hobart Zebras v Clarence (WSL)

Live Blog Coverage from Andrew Cooling, Sunday 4:00pm

 Shots On
 Shots Off

So Zebras move back to the top of the table and continue their winning streak, the stats tell the whole story really, this was domination. All eyes now move to KGV next Friday night for their top of the table clash against the Olympia Warriors.

84′ Shot off! Mason tries to bend one far post but can’t curl it enough. She’s practically been a left winger in this game, spending far more time in the Clarence area than her own, such has been the control Zebras have exercised over the game.

83′ Shot off! Berry finds a pocket of space just outside the D and fires an effort that is wide of the post.

Subs- Maundrill has replaced Johnstone and Harris has come on for Graham

82′  Shot off! Kannegiesser tries to sneak  one in near post but her powerful effort finds the side netting.

80′ Save! Another corner causes problems, it was aerial ping pong before Berry found herself with a prime headed chance but directed her effort into the ground and Vanderniet got across to make a fine stop.

76′ Woodwork, Somehow Zebras don’t add another, First Spandler is denied by a Richardson clearance off the line before Burt’s drive is hit into the post.

74′ GOAL! 4-0! Morris! Superb stuff from the sub, she skipped into the box past Richardson and Holmes before passing it into the bottom corner.

72′ Shot on! Another shot from long range, Kannegiesser the latest and she made great contact with the left foot, but again the tall figure of Vanderniet is across to pick it out of the corner and catch.

SUB- Nichols replaced by Morris.

70′ Shot on! Bowden the latest to try curl one from range, but Vanderniet is going to be caught out by such efforts and she hold onto this one too.

64′ Nichols opts to pass rather than shoot when she got in the box allowing Holmes to put it behind for Zebras 11th corner of the night!

62′ Shot on! Mason with a hopeful effort from 25 yards that’s curled right down the throat of Vanderniet.

61′ Shot on! Kannegiesser denied what would have been a stunning solo goal, tracked the ball down worked Richardson off it before turning inside and firing a shot that Vanderniet did very well to parry onto the crossbar.

60′ Shot off! A corner is scrapped for in the box before falling to Spandler who fires wide of the mark.

56′ Holmes just hesitates a moment letting the ball drop and it in that moment it lets in Nichols who belts one straight at the keeper.

53′ Shot on! Berry feeds it through to Kannegiesser who tries to place it bottom corner and the lack of power allows Vanderniet to get across and clutch it to her chest.

51′ Shot on! Berry has an attempt from outside the box, curling it top window but Vanderniet is across to catch.

48′ No shortage of chances in the opening few moments, Berry came close, as did Mason, there have been about five shots blocked that were goalward as Clarence are under complete siege at the back but have held on so far.

Half Time: Zebras 3-0 Clarence. Zebras in complete control and look like they will recapture top spot ahead of their crunch game with the Warriors next Friday night.

45+1′ Shot on! Raking cross from the wing is met by the head of Kannegiesser who was facing away from goal and cleverly flicked it on but it’s straight at the keeper.

37′ GOAL! 3-0! Berry takes it on the right, crosses to the far post  for Kannegiesser and from close range she makes no mistake, dam wall has burst here!

35′ GOAL! 2-0! Nichols with the finish but that is all Kayla Mason! She intercepted it at her own 18 yard box before tearing down the left and carrying it the entire length of the pitch, breezing past defenders, before opting to square it for Nichols, whose first effort cannoned into the post but fortunately the rebound fell right back to her and she smashed into the roof of the net.

34′ Shot block! Berry crosses to the middle of the box for Nichols who takes a touch to set it for herself to volley but Holmes arrives and blocks it away.

32′ Shot on! Berry tries to beat Vanderniet at her near post but she has it covered comfortably.

31′ Some lovely flowing football leads to Kannegiesser crossing for Spandler who fires at goal but Richardson makes the crucial block.

27′ SUB- Undy has succumbed to an injury and been replaced by Nellis. Is being escorted off by the trainers, and can’t put weight on her foot.

Clarence defence doing a pretty good job so far, been under the pump all game, but aren’t giving up prime scoring chances. They need to find something on the counter though, cause it has broken down on halfway whenever they have tried to get forward.

25′ Shot off! Spandler can’t quite turn home Nichols cross after she tracked the ball down on the by-line and cut it back.

19′ Shot off! Berry charges down the right getting in behind Dixon and crosses for DK, her first shot is blocked by Newell and she hammers the rebound into the side netting.

All Zebras at the moment just as the previous meetings between the sides have been, Clarence pegged back deep in their own box defending for the most part.

14′ Shot off! Spandler finds some room and smashes one that just floats over the bar.

13′ SAVE! Top drawer from Vanderniet, making herself big and getting off her line to deny Kannegiesser who had been played in by a lovely ball from Berry.

11′ Post! Bowden fires one which takes a massive deflection that left Vanderniet no chance, but fortunately for her it bounces onto the post. She denies Nichols follow up but the striker had strayed offside.

8′ GOAL! 1-0! Zebras! Burt’s low, worm burner of a corner finds Undy who absolutely buries it in off the underside of the crossbar.

5′ Not much happening at the moment, Amber Johnstone lining up as a striker for Clarence is a change, Zebras very much as expected, with Niichols getting the nod to lead the line today.

1′ Kick off, bit of a delay, but getting started at about 4:12pm here.

The final game of the round in the PFD WSL sees Zebras looking to reclaim top spot as they take on Clarence. Both games they have played this year have been similar, in Round 1 of the League season and the quarter finals of the Statewide Cup. Zebras won 3-0 and 3-1 respectively and dominated the contest, but ultimately struggled to convert the dominance into goals for large periods of the game. In the previous super league meeting Amelia Vanderniet had a blinder and she will need to be at the top of her game if they are to be the ones to bring an end to this incredible winning streak of Zebras.
