 Shots On
 Shots Off

Full Time: Hobart Zebras 5-1 Kingborough Lions

A comfortable enough victory for the Zebras who should have scored a few more. Well played to Gardner in goals for the Lions, she stood up and made numerous good saves.

90+1′ Shot on! Could probably copy paste this, feel like I’ve typed it a lot, Morris surges in from the left and blasts one which Gardner saves.

84′ Shot off! Getting closer is Berry, this one misses by inches as she first time looked to flick a ball in after another inch perfect cross from Gee wide on the right.

83′ Shot off! A lobbed through ball falls into the path of Berry who tries a volley from outside the box, but it flies just past the post.

79′ Shot off! Dadswell tries to curl a free kick from 20 yards out but it drifts wide.

78′ Woodwork! Gee curls in a perfect cross to Berry in the middle of the box who smashes her volley into the post!

75′ Shot on! Another save from Gardner to deny Morris firing from the angle on the left, she really took her time with this, tried to freeze out the keeper then smashed it, but the result is another Gardner save, frustrating evening for Morris.

74′ Shot off! Gee misses from close range, not so much a shot, as a flung hip at the ball that went wide after a perfect cross to the back post from the utterly dominant Berry.

73′ Shot off! Berry so close to a stunner. She weaved left, then right, then left again, leaving her marker completely for dead before smashing a shot inches wide.

Sub- Mason is replaced by Orlowski.

70′ GOAL 5-1! Kannegiesser smashes one back across the six yard box and Allie Berry is on hand to stick out a foot and turn it home from 3 yards out.

Sub- Harris is replaced by Gee for Zebras.

64′ Shot on! O’Brien tries her luck from miles out! Gardner is unmoved and just catches it with no fuss.

60′ GOAL! 4-1! Not this time though, Berry opts to round the keeper this time when played through and she strokes it home. Classy stuff.

59′ SAVE! Top drawer from Gardner to get down and deny a 1 v 1 with an onrushing Berry who had been played in by Burt.

58′ Shot on! Morris again straight at the keeper from the angle. Has been charging in on the left all night and cutting inside. This time DeSmit might have done just enough to put her off the shot.

57′ A great defensive intervention from a back tracking Dadswell denies a promising attacking move from Spandler as carried the ball into the box.

51′ GOAL! 3-1! Kannegiesser with a fine header into the bottom corner of the net from a Morris corner, made good contact in traffic and picks out the bottom corner.

48′ Shot off! Watkins makes a crucial block in the box, the ball is then laid back to Spandler who blazes over from range.

47′ Shot on! Morris once again storms into the box on the left hand side and unleashes a powerful shot but it’s straight at Gardner who parries away.

Half Time: Hobart Zebras 2-1 Kingborough Lions

Well the Zebras should be much further ahead in this one, they have missed a number of prime goal scoring chances and the Lions took the one main chance that came their way. All still to play for in the second half, the Lions got better as the half wore on but they certainly can count themselves fortunate to still be in there.

44′ Shot on! Or maybe a cross, Dadswell’s free kick curled from the right wing nearly sneaks in but Cook was alert and catches it comfortably.

42′ Shot off! Kannegiesser should have scored then, got around the keeper at the top of the box but then blazed wide of the mark with her shot from the angle

41′ Shot on! Berry robs Clifford then tries to chip Gardner who extends the dukes and claims the ball.

SUB- Green Replaces Castaneda-Harper for the Lions.

38′ Shot off! Morris finds the side netting as she tries to sneak one in at the near post.

31′ Woodwork! Dk has been in everything so far this half and this time she time she sprays one into the post from a one on one, should have done better.

30′ Shot on! Kannegiesser denied by Gardner who gets down well to make the stop. Was played in by a great pass from Mason.

28′ Delightful through ball from Kannegiesser is picked up by Morris who looks to storm past a defender but her second touch is a bit heavy to take it past the keeper and it spills over the by-line.

25′ GOAL! 2-1! The Lions pull one back through Davis, let in at the back she races onto the ball and with Cook out of position, places it into the empty net.

23′ Shot off! Oh my what a miss! Morris burns a sitter at the back post after a perfect ball from Harris had put it on a platter for her.

21′ Shot on! Dadswell curls a free kick from range which Cooks grabs hold of.

20′ Make that 7 off-sides, this time denying DK a one on one which she slotted home clinically.

Six offsides in the opening 15 minutes for the Zebras, the Lionesses playing a very high line. Has cost them a couple of times though, really playing with fire.

13′ GOAL! 2-0! Kannegiesser not denied this time, although Gardner did make an initial save, so is a bit unlucky, the rebound fell back into the path of DK who sweeps it home!

11′ Shot on! Kannegiesser, tries to sneak one from the angle but is denied.

Opening 10 minutes has been all Zebras, ball being played entirely up one end of the pitch with the Lions defending pretty well but have still been caught out a couple of times.

8′ Gardner out quick off her line to deny Morris getting in behind.

3′ GOAL! 1-0 Zebras, Sarah Morris picks it up on the left, storms into the box and buries it,

The round begins with Hobart Zebras looking to claim the Safari Derby over the Kingborough Lions. They will be expecting to maintain top spot over a side they defeated 7-2 the last time they met back in Round 6; not that they had it all their own way in that game. For 45 minutes the Lionesses provided an almighty fright for the ladder leaders as they went into the sheds 2-1 ahead with a shock boil over on the cards. A second half surge led by a Danielle Kannegiesser hat-trick restored the normal order however as they smashed six second half goals but it’s at least half of a game that should give Kingborough some hope heading into such a difficult clash.
