Hobart Zebras 3-1 Launceston City

80′ GOAL! 3-1! That could be the ball game, a Burt corner is met by the head of Kannegiesser who heads it far post, the defender on the line gets a boot to it, but it deflects into the back of the net.

69′ GOAL! 2-1 Zebras have turned the game on their head here! A corner is swung in, the ball goes over the keepers head, it rounds to O’Brien who drives it home!

65′ Goal! 1-1! Georgia Burt thumps a drive from 25 yards out, the keeper gets hands to it but can’t keep it out

Half Time Launceston City 1-0 Hobart Zebras

An element of fortune about the City goal, with the ball taking a cruel deflection off Allie Berry. That is all that separates the two sides so far in what has been a pretty tight, if a little scrappy affair. Both sides have lacked the crispness with their passing that has been a feature in the past few weeks although with some new faces in each teams starting XI perhaps the lack of cohesiveness is not a shock. There was a 15 minute period in the middle of the half where the game really opened up and it was an end to end affair but otherwise it hasn’t been the greatest spectacle with both sides putting defence first.

31′ GOAL! 1-0 Launceston City! A Bygrave corner is deflected into her own net by Allie Berry.

Preview

Once again it’s Hobart Zebras firmly in the spotlight as they play off in the game of the round for a third week in a row. So far they have stampeded over the top of Taroona and Olympia but this weekend represents their biggest challenge yet when they take on an equally rampant Launceston City side. It’s a game that pits the two early front runners against each other in the battle of Italian sides. Both sides have just looked superb so far this season; last week was meant to be the acid test for them, yet both dispatched their opponents with a minimum of fuss. In midfield Georgia Burt has assumed the deepest role of the midfield three and will have to play a prominent role in curbing the influence of the dangerous Caitlin Storay who has the ability to single handedly take over a match. Unless Chris Hey shuffles his deck and moves Kayla Mason back into the role to screening role to man mark her. With the likes of Bygrave, O’Brien and Bowden all at the very top of their form the midfield battle should be an intriguing one and looms as crucial to the game. Up top Emily Hernyk seems to score every time she swings her boot at the ball whilst any worries they might miss Jazmin Gorrie have been allayed by the emergence of a genuine young star of the league in Keilin Fagan. Zebras have plenty of fire power themselves, Zoe Nichols, Danielle Kannegiesser and Allie Berry have clicked as a front three and their intensity and work rate will be sure to keep the City defence on their toes. With the next two meetings between these sides set to be played up North, there is arguably more pressure on Zebras to take the points in this one but there is no chance City will be looking at the game with that attitude. They are dialed in at the moment and know they can stamp themselves as the side to beat with three points here. This is shaping as the game of the season to date, you don’t want to miss it, and won’t if you tune into the live stream on Slice of Cheese.
