Full Time: Hobart Zebras 1-1 Taroona

90′ A corner leads to an Ayton volley in the box that Roberts blocks on the back post. Prior to it the Zebras had a good spell with repeat corners but neither side can grab the match winner.

73′ GOAL! 1-! Lucy Johnson chips the keeper from 35-40 yards with a perfectly hit free kick, she does just this time and time again! 1-1!

70′ Ayton nearly doubles the lead but her drive is well saved by Ponting before the rebound is fired into the side netting.

59′ GOAL! 1-0! Taroona! Horgan scores! Tolman struck one through the legs of Ponting, it rebounded off the post, the ball isn’t cleared and Horgan slams it home.!

47′ Tolman pounces on a poor touch from Delaney and tries to drive on near post but finds the side netting.

46′ Back underway

Half Time

A pretty even half in terms of possession, Taroona had the better of the chances and are probably shading things but Zebras still had 2 prime scoring looks themselves. Your typical Zebras v Pirates game, not much between them, whoever takes their chances will win. A

44′ Cropp again beating defenders and firing off  a shot but Ponting gets the fingers to it and guides it over the bar,

40′ Cropp takes off on a fine run and gets in behind the lines but can’t beat Ponting who saves sharply.

32′ Undy is sprung in behind and has a 1 v 1 but Laiagevesi comes out and makes a crucial block on her volley

25′ Best chance of the game as Tolman surges in behind the defence with a burst of acceleration but her shot is inches wide of the far post.

15′ A pretty even opening to the game so far, both teams have had a couple of chances but nothing really clear cut. Taroona just tested Ponting with a Cruickshank chip from range which she easily parried over the bar.

1; Kick off

Teams:

Zebras: Mason, Delaney, O’Brien, Bowden, Undy, Roberts, MacGregor, Burt, Johnson, Ridler, Ponting. Subs: Kannegiesser, Colanzi, Morris, Colanzi, Lawler

Taroona: Laiagavesi, Tolman, Horgan, Painter, Bremner, Dick, Blackwood Coyle, Dunbabin, Cruickshank, Hulton, Cropp SUBS: Raymond, Cane, Minstrell, Ayton, Dunbabin

We haven’t seen the best from Taroona so far in 2018 but with some key players returning from injury you would expect them at full strength to be mixing it with the likes of City, Ulverstone and Zebras. Ayton and Minstrell are on the bench today so could have an impact but are obviously not quite fit enough to start yet. The Zebras seemed to wake up last week against the Lions last week at least in scoring terms, as they clicked and hit them for seven. With Lucy Johson arriving the assumption was they would be even more terrifying in attack but they have had to play without the goal scoring threat of the injured Kannegiesser (21), Allie Berry (17) and Zoe Nichols (15) which is their top 3 scorers from last year. Take 53 goals out of most sides and they would probably take a few weeks to figure it out. Their defence and midfield remain the strongest in the league and as the list of games above demonstrates, this is a side that knows how to win.
