Full Time: Kingborough 2-1 University

So Kingborough hold on to win, it was too little too late for the Students. On the whole a pretty even affair, both sides had good spells in play and created chances. The Lions probably deserved winners though, having created more quality goal scoring chances.

90+1′ Norton runs into the box but Dadswell is on hand to block her progress. She clears it away and the final whistle blows.

90′ GOAL! 2-1! Cropp places the penalty home and the Students have added time to try and square this game up.

90′ Young’s cross is blocked by the hand of a Lions defender and a penalty is blown.

85′ GOAL! 2-0! DAVIS! The Lions gun striker secures the points, the ball bounced up to her in the middle of the box and she belted the volley past Van Beek.

Sub- De Smit on for Hales.

82′ University knocking on the door at the moment getting plenty of balls into the box but the Lions defence is holding strong.

74′ Lucas does just enough in defence to prevent Davis from having a close range tap in.

71′ Shot on! Lovely touch from Norton takes her around a defender but her shot from outside the box is no threat to Gardner’s goal.

67′- SUB- Sophie Young replaced  by Duncombe.

63′ Shot on! A Hale corner is nodded goalward by Davis but Van Beek makes a quality save reacting well to get across to the back post. Game opening up all of a sudden!

62′ Shot on! Cropp curls a free kick from the left hand corner of the box but Garnder catches it.

61′ Shot on! Norton learns her lesson and this time dwells on the ball, jinks past a defender and squares to Choi who hits it near post where Gardner makes a sharp save.

56′ Shot off! A long ball over the top releases Norton with time and space at the top of the box, she must not have been aware of just how long she had though because rather than take a touch she blazes it wide. Prime chance goes begging.

55′ Shot off! James does just enough to put off Cropp who had burst into space in the box but she skews her efffort wide.

54′ Shot off! Norton tries to work one from the angle but can’t bend it back enough.

51′ Similar scenes up the other end as Davis somehow skips away from 3 defenders but her touch was just a fraction too heavy and it allows Van Beek to collect.

49′ Sophie Young storms into the box bu Gardner comes out at her feet and smothers to deny her before she can get a shot away.

46′ Back underway her at the Den.

HALF TIME: Kingborough 1-0 University

So half time at the Den and it probably came at a good time for the Lions who just lagged a little as we crept towards the break after having controlled the majority of the half and taken a deserved lead. Tatton the goalscorer and the class player on the pitch so far, has been the most likely player to make something happen with some mazy runs and intelligent passing.

45′ University with a pair of good attacking moments late in the half but they are snuffed out by Iseli and James respectively.

38′ Shot on! Young does well wide on the left and her cross spills through 3 to get to Cropp at the top of the box and she smashes one that is headed bottom corner but Gardner gets a piece of it and it squeezes just wide for a corner,

37′ Shot off! A corner is cleared to the top of the box where a lurking Watkins makes good contact with a first time hit that the keeper watches creep narrowly past the post.

34′ Shot off! An optimistic effort from Hale with a long range hit that flies across the face of goal.

33′ Lucas with some nice defensive work to prevent the dangerous Davis finding space in the box after she had been played in.

28′ GOAL! 1-0! The Lions get their goal anyway. A raking effort from Tatton from the corner of the box after a nice run flies into the far corner of the net! Lovely strike that!

27 SAVED! Davis looks to drive the spot kick right down the middle, Van Beek stays on her line and makes the stop with her legs!

26′ PENALTY! Riddel miscontrols in the box, and it volleys off her boot into her arm!

21′ Shot on! Lucy Macgregor with the first real shot in anger for the Students but it’s from miles out and pitches in front of Gardner for a comfortable collect.

17′ Shot off! The ball spills out to Davis on the left hand side of the box but her scooped effort is no threat to the goal. Lions starting to get on top though.

14′ Shot off! Furness strides through the middle after being played into space by some clever play from Tatton, who has looked a cut above in the opening moments. She has space at the top of the box but pulls the effort wide.

10′ No real obvious goal scoring chances yet and neither side really on top, both having spells of possession in attack. The Lionesses have had a couple of shots let loose and blocked but neither keeper has been called into action yet. Bit of a cagey opening really.

5′ Shot block! Bowditch with a vital block, Davis played a really clever ball to release Tatton who cut inside sharply and fired at goal but Bowditch made  a huge stop.

1′ Kick off! Slight delay here but at 2:10pm we are now underway.

Welcome to the Den as Kingborough and University meet in a crucial game for both sides, with the prospect of three points very real for the both of them. Their previous clash was one of the games of the season as the Students fought back late to recover from a 3-1 deficit to claim a 3-3 draw in a pulsating affair up at Olinda Grove.  The visitors will be buoyed by last weeks draw with Taroona which was probably their third good performance in their last 4 games, save for an under strength side being hammered on the road to Launceston City, they have been in decent touch and if they can play as they did last week the prospect of a breakthrough win for the side. The Lions form line has not been good, copping some heavy defeats in recent weeks though it has been a particularly tough stretch for them, playing the top 3 in the league over the last 3 weeks. Today they are offered a more winnable match up, and this should be a tight fought affair.
