Launceston City v Hobart Zebras

 Laun City
 Hobart Zebras
 Shots On
 Shots Off

Full Time: Zebras somehow hold out against an absolute siege in the second half, staggered that ended 1-0, well done Zebras for holding out but City will be gutted they don’t get anything from it. Massive three points for Zebras.

FULL TIME: Launceston City 0-1 Hobart Zebras

90+1′ Shot off! Hernyk from range has a pop, just wide.

90+1′ Shot off! City so close again! Cook and Lapier both fling their legs at the ball, Lapier gets a large piece of it, and it goes just wide of the post.

90′ Zebras nearly seal it, a cross from the right is volleyed by Berry and well saved.

88′ Zebras are holding on for dear life against an onslaught from City. Absolute tale of two halves, but that Bowden strike that just dipped.

85′ SAVE! Cook has been outstanding in this second half and she makes another big save to deny a fierce shot from Hernyk.

81′ Shot on! Fagan curls one from range which Cook holds onto comfortably.

78′ CHAOS!!! Utter chaos,! I have no idea how City haven’t scored, from a corner they ended up having about six shots, Cook saved a couple and others were blocked. There was one that somehow missed from about 4 yards out, the ball pinballs around is eventually cleared. City coach is in pure disbelief and so am I. Big let off for Zebras, no idea how that stayed out.

77′ Shot on! Bygrave I think it was, blasts from 25 yards with one that was headed top window before Cook claws it wide.

76′ SUB- Goldsmith on for Jones, and if intencity of warm up is any indicator she looks primed to make an impact, keen as the proverbial bean

72′ SAVE! Cook gets down well at her near post to make a very sharp save to deny Lapier who had been played in and was presented with a great chance.

City really starting to push hard here, they have another corner and are knocking on the door.

70′ Shot on! Storay drops the shoulder, cuts inside and fires but Cook saves easily enough.

69′ Cook again does well from the next corner, diving out and grabbing a rebound away from a lurking Fagan.

68′ Cook does well to claw away a dangerous inswinging corner. City starting to press hard and have another corner.

65′ Shot off! Morris takes it at the top of the box, drives past Siejka but thumps her effort over the top.

62′ SUB- Lapier replaces Fujimoto as City make the first sub of the game.

62′ Malkin does well to block a goal bound shot from Morris, plenty of bodies back for City and they hold out well.

61′ Siejka does well and wins a scrap away from Harris after some nice work from Berry, behind it goes for a corner. Zebras starting to get back on top.

Outstanding banter between Hey and Gugliotti on the side lines as the sides trade corner chances.

54′ Shots on! The free kick is blocked, by her own player on the line before it’s cleared to O’Brien who curls one from range and after initiall spilling it Brown grabs the rebound before DK can pounce.

53′ Slice of Cheese! Hernyk clips Kannegiesser who was sprinting in on goal, was a last man challenge under the old rule it would have been a red. Just outside the box so no penalty either.

50′ Shot off! Bygrave smashes one just over the top, fell to her after some tidy interplay between Fagan and Storay who laid it back nicely for Bygrave on the left just outside the box. City have started this half the brighter side.

48′ Shot on! A long range Bygrave free kick is comfortably held onto by Cook.

46′ Back under way in the second half, no changes for either side.

Well that is football for you, Zebras had a host of prime scoring chances throughout that half that they didn’t convert, Bowden launches a speculative effort from long range and somehow it dips in. Bowden seemed shocked it had landed in and almost did a double take, think she thought it might have landed on the net, not in it. Still on the balance of play you have to say it is a deserved goal, Zebras have bossed the contest and would have felt aggrieved had they went into the sheds with the score 0-0.

Half Time: Launceston City 0-1 Hobart Zebras

45+1′ GOAL! BOWDEN! A long range Chip, decided to try her luck from 35 yards out, floated one goalward, it loops over Brown and into the back of the net.

44′ A textbook sliding challenge from Nellis robs Hernyk of the ball and stops her storming down the left, slid in, took all the ball and was able to get up and carry it forward, perfect defensive play.

38′ Mason does well to catch up to Fagan and put it behind for a corner after a blistering foot race to the right hand side of the box, two pacey customers and Fagan looked like she had gotten goal side before Mason recovered well.

Corner wasted this time from Harris but this has been a great spell of pressure from Zebras, they are all over City at the moment but can’t make it count on the score sheet.

33′ Shot Blocked! Hernyk with a vital block to deny Berry at the near post, blocking it onto the woodwork as turned to shoot, having been played in by Burt.

30‘ Siejka Saves the day! Berry looked to have her beating as she charged into the box one on one but Siejka managed to bustle in goalside of her and take the ball away, goal saving challenge that.

29′ Slice of Cheese! Kannegiesser gets into the back of Siejka, bit of a harsh cheddar that one. Was well defended by Siejka though to win the ball and draw the foul.

21′ POST! City this time! Fagan is played in behind the Zebras defensive line and fired one that had Cook beaten but not the post.

19′ Shot off! Brown is sharp off her line and does just enough to put off Berry who puts it over the top.

17′ The offside flag denies Fagan from racing in 1 on 1. She is sitting on the shoulder of the last defender and looking tog sprint in behind at every chance.

16′ Shot on! Some scrambling defence from City denies a couple of opening before Burt turns and shoots from the edge of the box but again it’s straight at the keeper.

15′ Shot on! A turnover at the back give Fagan an opening and she drives one from 20 yards that is saved by Cook.

15′Shot off! Bygrave tries her luck with a free kick from 35 yards out that floats over the bar.

12′ Post! Another near miss, Harris, who has made a bright start, dribbles past a defender and fires one near post which bounces of the woodwork and into the lap of Brown.

8′ Shot on! Berry takes off on a mazy run through the middle and fires a dipping effort from range but again Brown is comfortably able to save.

6′ Shot on! Berry tries a volleyed chip from an angle but Brown has her position right and there wasn’t much purchase on the shot. Zebras on top early so far, doing the bulk of the attacking.

6′ Woodwork! O’Brien with an absolute howitzer from 20 yards out that rockets into the cross bar, a corner was cleared into her path and she came oh so close to opening the scoring in style.

Same back four as last week with Zebras, with O’Brien at CB and Berry in midfield.

5′ Shot on! O’Brien with an optimistic pop from long range but it doesn’t trouble Brown.

4′ Jess Harris with some tidy work to cut inside of Jones but Storay is across to slide in  and put it behind for a corner.

1′ Kick off, we’re underway.

Welcome to Buckby Landrover Park for what should be an absolute classic of a Super League clash between Launceston City and Hobart Zebras. Two teams with title aspirations and the ramifications from this game will be significant. Plenty of talent out there on the park and both sides are more than capable of winning this one.
