Olympia v Kingborough (NPL)

Live Blog Coverage From Mark Wakefield from 8:00pm

 Shots On
 Shots Off

83′ SUB! OFF: Belstead ON: Lane

81′ SHOT ON! Mearns miscues a shot and ends up teeing up Leamann who rakes a shot at the near post. Kamara does enough to keep it out.

78′ GOAL!!! Verdouw cracks a bicycle kick into the back of the net! It’s 3-2. 12 minutes to salvage the game for the Lions!

76′ SAVE! Kamara does well to deny a volley from Bellini at the back post.

75′ SLICE OF CHEESE! McIldowney into the book for a professional foul on Bellini.

Game has really degenerated into a sloop mess this half. Olympia have reverted back to completely burning the ball and have looked a shell of the side they were in the first half.

68′ GREAT SAVE! Kamara somehow saves from the back heel from Vandermey who appeared to be offside (but wasn’t called).

63′ SUB! OFF: Burn ON: Hall

62′ SLICE OF CHEESE! Mearns goes into the book for a bad tackle, but he won the ball. Bizarre stuff.

56′ GOAL! Lions pull one back off the head of Lokoes! 3-1! Is it game on?

55′ SUB! OFF: Hill ON: Sammut

50′ SHOT OFF! Leamann jinks back onto his right and curls a shot that just whips wide of the right hand post.

47′ SHOT OFF! Mearns beats the offside trap and strolls into the right hand side of the 18 yard box and launches a pile driver of a shot just over the bar. It was rocketing along at a rate of knots. Would have taken some saving.

Sklenar has come off at half time, picked up a knock that we saw in the first half that didn’t look serious. Little on for him.

HALF TIME! Olympia up 3-0.

38′ SHOT OFF! Mearns works a one two at rapid pace and is in space, but he rushes his shot and slices it wide as he loses balance.

35′ CROSSBAR! The Lions have hit the crossbar, the ball bobbles inside the box and Olympia fail to clear. Burn on the turn blasts a left footed shot into the bar and it bounces away to safety.

33′ SLICE OF CHEESE! Burn goes into the book for a terrible and late challenge on Mearns.

31′ SUB! OFF: Bastock ON: Lokoes. Broady has seen enough. Makes the change.

29′ GOAL! Vandermey gets on the end of a cross from Bellini on a fast attack and smacks it home. The Warriors are incredible tonight. 3-0.

Olympia completely crushing the Lions at the moment. So many shots, so many chances. Creating well tonight. They look so sharp.

24′ SHOT OFF! Leamann feeds Sklenar but he can’t quite keep his effort down.

23′ AND ANOTHER! Should have been… Sklenar finds space again and his shot is well saved by Kamara.

20′ SHOULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER! Hill and Sklenar are completely unmarked, 6 yards out from a corner somehow… and Sklenar has all the time in the world to find the back of the net with his head. No pressure, no one nearby and he picked Kamara straight out.

Good to see Lewis Verdouw back from his stint in America. He looks fast and fit – but hasn’t had much of the ball just yet.

11′ GOAL! Mearns smacks home on his left with a great curling effort into the bottom left corner. Kamara dives but can not reach it. What a goal!

Was about to start typing about how none had really got a hold of the game yet, and as soon as I did they scored!

8′ GOAL! Undy hammers home a volley from about 12 yards, smacks it powerfully past Kamara after a great cross from Leamann.

3′ CORNER! Undy weaves some magic through the Lions defence and earns his team the first corner of the game.

1′ SHOT ON! Schuth tries his luck from down town and its harmless and is easily collected by Cole.

Olympia Teamsheet:

Lions Teamsheet:

Hello everyone, Mark ‘Wiggo’ Wakefield bringing you the game tonight. Not going to go too in depth with analysis tonight.

Olympia would have been pretty disappointed with their effort against South Hobart last week, they never got out of second gear. I’ve been told that their training load has increased significantly since Weston came in and it showed last week – they looked lethargic and in need of a rest to recover.

South were magnificent though, so take nothing away from them. But Olympia were a lot poorer than they had been all year, so it was hard to read into the game too much as to whether it was South dominating or Olympia being poor, or Olympia being poor because South were so good?

The Lions scraped a win under the tutelage of the new coach Broadbent. He’s got plenty of experience and he did a great job of setting his team up to pinch a win. They will struggle though tonight and it will come as no surprise if they park the bus and try and pinch something on the counter again tonight.

It should be a good game and we should see if Olympia are starting to pick up any new systems from Weston’s coaching tonight and over the coming weeks. I’ll grab the team sheets shortly, but until then, sit tight.
