Full Time: South Hobart 7-0 Clarence

South pretty wasteful in the end but they had it wrapped up early so it mattered little. They get their title bid back on track, whilst Clarence have now lost heavily 3 times in a row and need a circuit breaker.

90+2′ Tremendous save Dyson! Makes a sharp reaction block to deny what seemed a certain Schmidt goal!

90′ South get a corner they shouldn’t have and it ends with Sculthorpe blazing over the bar. Hasn’t had his shooting boots today, this one took a touch though and will be another corner.

87′ A lovely cross from Lakoseljac from the right wing to the back post, where Sculthorpe nods just wide.

85′ SUB- Lange on for an injured Ercan who limps off on the far side, rubbing some salt into the gaping wounds for Clarence.

79′ Palmer does well to slide in just in the nick of time to whisk it away from Sculthorpe as he shaped to shoot.

78′ Hedge blocks De Vecchi’s shot as he cuts inside, then the rebound falls to Schmidt who fires straight at Dyson.

76′ Sculthorpe over the bar! Hasn’t been his best 90 seconds the big fella, this time he heads over the bar from close range.

75′ De Vecchi’s shot is charged down by Hedge and deflects behind for a corner.

73′ Two chances go begging for South, first Hedge makes a nice goal line block before the bal is played to Sculthorpe who inexplicably smashes it over the top from 8 yards out.

73’Gorrie works it to Cook on the left hand side of the box and he fizzes it wide.

72′ SUB- Sculthorpe on for Degetto.

71′ Ercan’s free kick is dipping and on target but is fisted away by Brown.

71′ Bremner shows strength and beats two defenders, skinning Bowman, Nick Morton tracks back and says that’s enough, and hacks him down to earn a Slice of Cheese!

68′ Cook takes a tumble in the box and has shouts for a penalty turned down.

66′ SUB- Hardwick replaces Price. South with a corner.

64′ Schmidt launches an absolute Howitzer from 30 yards out that wasn’t too far away from picking out the top window.

62′ SUB- Jack Turner makes way from Bradley Lakoseljac.

61′ Ercan’s free kick from 25 yards out, is on target but is straight into the arms of Brown.

58′ Bremner with a big dive in the box and Mcinerney is not having it, a telling off but no Slice is forthcoming.

57′ Shot off! Bremner does well to head into the path of Snell who runs onto it and volleys over the top from the angle.

55′ GOAL! 7-0! Gorrie keeps up his 100% record from the spot as he smashes it with authority, into the bottom right.

55′ Penalty! Price slides in and brings down De Vecchi in the box.

52′ GOAL! 6-0! An absolute gift as the ball is butchered trying to play out from the back, straight to De Vecchi. He doesn’t look the gift horse in the mouth and smashes it home.

48′ Bremner into the book for a late challenge on Morton. On the sideline Jablonski and Lapolla exchange words, the South bench weren’t happy with the tackle.

47′ Snell and Bremner combine on the right hand side of the box before Bremner chips for the back post trying to find Hatcher. Unfortunately he is the smallest player on the pitch and can’t get up to head it home. A sign of life Clarence though, much better than anything they dished up in the first 45.

46′ Play back underway, Jack Bowman has replaced Oscar Thomas. Clarence haven’t subbed but have moved Palmer to CB and put Bremner up top.

Half Time: South Hobart 5-0 Clarence

Half time and it’s 5-0, it should be more really, South have had 17 shots to Clarence’s 1 tame effort from distance. This has been an utter domination, South are playing some sharp football and the gulf in class is clear, but Clarence have offered zero resistance and shown no desire to fight this one out whatsoever.

45+1′ Turner leans back and blasts it over from the top of the box.

45′ GOAL! 5-0! Gorrie is played in down the right, he runs into the box and cuts back for Degetto who strokes home.

44′ Schmidt plays it through for De Vecchi who rounds the keeper and finishes stylishly, but the offside flag had been raised.

43′ Save! De Vecchi looks to finesse one into the far corner but a diving Dyson parries it away.

41′ GOAL! 4-0! A rocket from Dan Brown! Found some room on the right hand side of the box and unleashed a ferocious shot that flies perfectly into the bottom corner.

40′ The youngster, Cody Snell, who has been his sides best, make a good clearing header then charges down a Gorrie shot. His teammates could learn something from his endeavour.

36′ Morton fouls Bremner blatantly in the back but Billy makes sure the ref sees it by replicating his swan dive from last time they met at this venue.

34′ The offside flag denies Degetto with players lining up in the middle to tap home.

34′ Morton scythes through the heart of the defence before firing over the crossbar.

33′ Schmidt again fires straight down the throat of Dyson from the top of the box. Then O’Neill gets a telling off for a meaty challenge, just the warning though.

32′ Morton puts in a cross that Degetto gets a touch on but can’t direct it goalwards and it takes it away from a lurking Turner. This is a training drill right now for South, Clarence simply can’t get a touch of the ball.

29′ De vecchi starts a move with a nice backheel, the ball is worked to Cook who crosses for a wide open Degetto who heads over the bar. Only knock on South so far is some wastefulness, this should be even more than 3-0.

23′ The chances keep flowing, as first De Vecchi and the minutes later Degetto fire wide from openings, if not clear goal scoring chances.

19′ Hedge sticks out a leg to deflect a Morton shot wide of the post. Isaac Degetto then blasts a volley from the corner over the top.

18′ Hedge saves a goal with a brilliant sliding challenge to take the ball away from De Vecchi after Cook had weighted the volley pass expertly into his path.

17′ Trying to make something happen Snell hits one from a mile out which is gather by Brown.

15′ Schmidt skips clear at the top of the box but drives straight at Dyson who catches comfortably.

13′ Some lovely play down the left from Cook leads to a chance for Degetto but he fires wide on the turn.

12′ GOAL! 3-0! This is a procession, Clarence are being picked apart! This time it;s Schmidt who drives a shot from a spill in the box, it deflects off a defender and into the far corner of the net.

11′ GOAL! 2-0! South work the corner short and Morton belts in a perfect cross with pace onto the head of De Vecchi who thumps the header home!

10′ Save! Dyson turns a Morton free kick around the post!

6′ Post! Degetto drives at the defence and belts one onto the left upright from 20 yards out.

3′ GOAL! 1-0! Perfect start for South as a cross picks out Isaac Degetto who crosses home and from the first chance they score. Completely stacks the acrobatic flip celebration, but I admire the intent.

1’Kick Off! We are underway at Darcy Street, a very cold, wet miserable day this one. Can’t even seen the mountain at present.

Teams:

South Hobart: Brown, Brown, Thomas, Feral, Gorrie, Turner, Schmidt, Morton, Cook, Degetto, De Vecchi SUBS: Bowman, Lakoseljac, Wright, Douce, Sculthorpe

Clarence: Dyson, Hedge, Bremner, Kannegiesser, O’Neill, Price, Palmer, Snell, Hatcher, Ercan, Sanchez, SUBS: Williams, Voss, Lange, Randall, Hardwick

South Hobart’s attention now turns back to defending their league crown. They enter Round 10 sitting six points adrift of the leaders Launceston City and still very much in the title picture. They will host a Clarence side who have troubled them in their meetings at Wentworth Park but never gotten close on the final scoreboard since their NPL return. Since the start of 2016, South are a perfect 8 and 0 from these games, and although 3-1 is the most common scoreline in those 8 games, its also as close as Clarence have gotten. With South likely to be fired up after last week, and Clarence coming off 5-0 and 7-0 defeats, you’d have to think that record improves to 9-0 barring anything spectacular.
