Clarence v South Hobart (NPL)

LIVE BLOG COVERAGE FROM Andrew Cooling from 6:30pm

 Shots On
 Shots Off

South Hobart comfortable winners, did the damage early and made it count on the scoreboard, they move back within a point of Devonport at the top of the table.

90′ GOAL! 5-0! Turner slides it in near post, beat the offside trap and got on the end of a through ball from Schmidt and buries it.

89′ Shot off! Kemp teases in a free kick which Brown gets to but can’t quite steer it goalward.

88′ RED CARD! Hallard off. Awful challenge from behind, hacked down Turner and he gets his second yellow. No complaints, he walks straight off.

85′ Shot off! Howler of a miss from Palmer, was put on a platter for him at the back post and he punches it back across the face and wide.

Sting has gone out of this one now, result beyond doubt and not a whole lot happening, South have been on top.

78′ Shot on! Hedge unleashes a fierce shot that Brown does well to cover and hold.

75′ Feral subbed off for Castaneda. Palmer has come on for Robb.

73′ Shot off! Some lovely work from Kemp out on the right, squares it for Turner at the top of the box and he slices his shot just wide.

71′ Slice of Cheese- Hallard into the book, for persistent fouling I think.

69′ SUB- Brennan on for Walter

63′ SUB- Gorrie for Schmidt

62′ Shot off! Walter picks up the ball on the left, surges past Naden, cutting side onto his right but his shot just floats over the top corner, not far away.

57′ Shot on! A tame shot from distance from range by Robb is comfortably saved.

55′ GOAL! 4-0! A deflected strike lands perfectly into the path of Turner who is able to pass it into the back of the net, fortuitous goal that, but as per usual Turner in the right place at the right time.

53′ Shot off! Kemp blasts over the top from the edge of the box on the non preferred.

52′ Shot off! The corner is swung into the mixer and Turner rises highest and thumps it just wide.

51′ Burgess with a timely intervention to stop Kemp scoring after he had played a nice 1-2 with Hamlett.

46′ Play resuming here, can Clarence turn things around?

So that is the end of the first half and South have been irresistible, playing some very tidy football and it looks like it might be game over already.

45+2′ Shot off! Morton should have buried that, a blinding run from Walter, took it past three defenders got to the by line and the cross to back post where an unmarked Morton somehow conspired to put it wide.

45′ Some superb flowing football from South almost results in a Hamlett goal but Randall intervenes to break up what was a brilliant attacking move that started at full back with Quaile and they passed it all the way to the 6 yard box.

43′ Shot off! A Gorrie cross into the area is controlled by Hamlett, and he tries to volley it with the left but skies his effort just over the top.

40′ Shot on! The ball is fed to Morton at the top of the box and he curls one that is straight at Randall.

35′ Shot on! A cross to the back post is met by Brown but his header is denied by a spectacular save from Randall to punch it over the top.

30′ South Hobart’s intensity has been superb so far, they are breaking forward with such purpose and moving the ball around at a tremendous tempo. The full backs are getting forward at every chance and Hamlett is causing all manner of problems with his movement and intelligent runs. Clarence started the better team through 10 minutes but have been utterly overwhelmed since.

28′ Shot off! A quaile cross to the back post finds Hamlett who heads back across the face of goal from close range.

23′ Shot off! A Hallard corner to the top of the box is met by Bremner who blasts it into the stratosphere

20′ Shot off! Hamlett close to a hatty, he slips as he smashes his latest shot and it flies over the bar.

19′ GOAL 3-0! Clarence have no answer at the back! This time a corner is not cleared properly, it falls to Morton I think, and he sweeps home!

15′ GOAL! 2-0! Still Hammertime at Wentworth Park, he has 2. Turner tore off with the ball through the middle of the park, fed it through to Hamlett and he has 2 goals in 2 minutes.

13′ GOAL! South Hobart, it’s HAMMERTIME! A sharp turn in the box after he receives the ball and he is suddenly in far too much space and he smashes it into the back of the net clinically!

10′ Shot off! A cross from Price on the left is headed wide by Hedge, tough chance, had to try head it from behind himself.

9′ Another dangerous moment at the back is well cleared by Clarence. South have had some teasing balls into the box but outside of a blocked shot, no chances yet,

8′ Shot on! Robb a bit selfish there, had options in the box but fired himself and doesn’t trouble Brown at his near post. End to end action here, furious pace to the game.

7′ Lewis with a vital intervention at the back, came from the clouds to clear a dangerous situation.

4′ Shot on! Bremner rises highest and smashes a header into the ground, Brown able to collect on the bounce.

3′ Price sends in a dangerous ball to the back post, Quaile cops a head knock and is slow back to his feet. Corner ball.

2′ The big Hedge with the #9 on his back tonight and is leading the line for Clarence, Robb and Naden wide and Malcolm just behind him. South Hobart with the same set up as last week, with Brown in for Thomas the only change. Kemp starting on the right.

1′ Kick off! A 6:39 pm start. We’re underway.

Slight delay getting underway at a surprisingly mild Wentworth Park, perfect night for football this, shouldn’t be too far off a start.

To end Round 11 we have South Hobart travelling to Wentworth Park to take on Clarence. They may sit in second place at present but South Hobart have assumed title favouritism in many people’s mind after they utterly dismantled the Warriors in the best performance from any side this year. They have now won their last four, including victories over Zebras and Olympia side’s who were on top of the table when they clashed. Clarence at Wentworth is a fixture that has caused them some problems over the past 2 seasons though and they can’t afford to take this for granted. They claimed 3-1 wins in their past two trips there but both games took late goals to settle and Clarence gave them a very good fight. Can the reds bounce back and halt a a four game losing streak. Teams to follow.
