University v Ulverstone

 Shots On
 Shots Off

FULL TIME: University 1-2 Ulverstone.

University will be shattered to not take anything from this, they’ve held out well at the back and defended well under pressure, but on the balance of play, especially in the second half, it’s a deserved winner. Djakic was the hero with her five last week and once again she has proved the match winner for Ulverstone.

88′ Cropp fires a cross, or maybe a shot from a tight angle, but it’s over the bar.

87′ GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2-1 Ulverstone! Phoebe Djakic with what will surely be the match winner! She took it 30 yards out, skipped into the box past two defenders and smashed it into the bottom corner!

86′ Shot off! A heavy first touch  from Sophie Young costs a one on one chance, it gets cleared and then crossed back in to Olivia Young at the back post who heads wide.

84′ Shot on! Norton does well in the middle and finds a pocket of space, she fires, but Hay gathers comfortably. Has been among the Students best in the middle today Norton, very industrious.

80′ SAVE! Van Beek comes sliding out, sharply off her line at the feet of Boerma to block what looked a promising opening at the back.

79′ Hay does just enough to put off Young at the back post, who can’t control a lo

76′ Shot off! There is one though, a corner is flicked on by Mitchell, a blocked header falls into the path of, Djakic I think, who smashed it over the bar. Great chance that.

Ulverstone doing the bulk of the attacking at the moment and have had plenty of the ball in and around the box, not creating clear opening though. Have the students backed up deep though and under siege.

72′ Sub- Young on for Duncombe.

70′- SUB- Fraser replaces Lucas, can it spark a match winner, the three points there for the taking for both sides.

65′ Mitchell makes a crucial tackle to halt a fine run from Cropp before she could get into the box and fire off a shot.

60′ Shot off! A rather hopeful effort that from Hardy, as she tried a volley from 35 yards on the drop, well wide though.

60’Shot on! Boerma tries to sneak one in near post but Van Beek saves comfortably.

58′ Shot off! Djakic storms into the box, skipping past a defender and drives one for the far post but can’t pick out the bottom corner. Great run but probably should have scored.

57′ Shot off! Macgregor overhits the free kick and it floats over the far post.

55′ Gillard brings down Cropp right near the by-line after a surging run, free kick in a good position after a brief stop with Cropp getting up a bit sore, potentially winded.

54′ Some concern here with Glover down holding her knee for Ulverstone. Is back to her feet gingerly now and will play on. No chances of note so far this half.

47′ Shot on! Young does well in the area, turns and fires off a shot but Hay kicks it away.

HALF TIME: University 1-1 Ulverstone

A pretty tight half, largely bogged down in midfield sees both sides heading into the sheds with a goal apiece. Plenty still to play for and not much between the teams so far. Could the extra legs on the bench prove an advantage for the Students?

45′ Shot off! Djakic on the turn is firing one wide of the post.

43′ Shot off! Boerma does well on the left to cut inside and gets a cross in to Djakic, under close watch from Bowditch she volleys over the bar.

37′ GOAL! 1-1! An interesting corner routine yields a goal. Ulverstone had all four at the top of the box, they all ran in upon delivery, was an inswinger into the six yard box, keeper doesn’t deal with it and it gets bundled home from close range by Weeda.

32′ Shot off! Cropp looks to curl a free kick from 25 yards out but it lands on the roof of the net.

30′ The work rate of Danielle Mitchell in midfield has been outstanding. I assume she is playing midfield, hard to know because she is covering every blade of grass. Not a whole lot going on in the game, both teams lacking penetration with both defences firmly on top.

19′ Norton shows some lovely skill in midfield to skip around a marker and charge forwards, pass gets broken up but was some very tidy stuff from her .

18′ Shot on! Djakic has Ulverstones first sight of goal as she curls one on the left but its a comfortable save for Van Beek.

15′ Lucy Macgregor does well to prevent a corner, expertly playing it off Mitchell to stop a promising attacking move from the visitors. Pretty end to end game but not much in the way of chances outsode of the goal.

11′ Shot on! Cropp has a dip from long range but Hay controls it well.

9′ GOAL! 1-0! Young swings in a cross to the near post and George is on hand to turn it home with a tidy finish. First chance of the game, and we have a goal!

No chances in the opening five minutes, game being bogged down in the middle of the park, a couple of almost moments in attack for both sides but no scoring chances. Ulverstone with no bodies on the bench today, that could prove telling. Also of note is that both sides are rolling out the break threes.

1′ Kick off delayed somewhat, getting underway at around about 10 past here. University rocking the hot pink socks and ribbons here for mothers day. Fundraising for Breast Cancer research. Got to admire that about this club, they are always getting involved with various causes, well done to all involved.

Welcome to Olinda Grove for this Round 8 PFD Women’s Super League clash between University and Ulverstone. The Students are still searching for their first win this season and having beaten today’s opponent in the cup when they met a fortnight ago should have the belief that they can do it. Ulverstone have been the better side in the league this season though and comfortably won their encounter up in the North West. This one could go either way and should be a good game.
