7:00pm- Full Time: Hobart Zebras 1-0 Taroona The Zebras have done it again, they hold out and keep the clean sheet to advance to the final. On the balance of play probably a fair result but Taroona will look back on this game and wonder what might have been. They just can’t quite get past this side, in the big moments it’s been Zebras who have shown more composure and they do it again today to set up a Friday night final with Olympia.

6:57pm- Cropp tries for the spectacular leveller from distance but it doesn’t dip enough. Time running out here for Taroona. Stoppage time all that remains.

6:49pm- Mason just past the post! She rolled it past the advancing Ottavi but it didn’t quite come back far enough to sneak in and it remains 1-0 Zebras heading into the final five minutes.

6:41pm- Been impressed with Lisa Bremner in this game, she was converted into a full back late last year and is showing why Horgan made the move, excelling in the role.

6:35pm- Crowd volume lifting, challenges getting slightly more physical and Taroona starting to create a bit as they come close again. Grandstand finish coming up here with a little over 20 to play. Taroona pushing hard, can the Zebras defence hold on?

6:33pm- What a chance! Dunbabin heads over the top from 5 yards out. That might be one they rue looking back on this game, a superb run and cross from Cane to forge the chance, taking the defence and the keeper out of the equation but somehow the chance goes begging.

6:27pm- Taroona hanging by a thread at the back, Ridler coming close but not generating enough power on her shot before Roberts has an effort cleared off the line for a corner. From the corner Ridler wins the header and Morris who was screening the keeper can’t quite redirect it as Ottavi claims it.

6:24pm- A return to the heart of defence today for Zebras captain Mady O’Brien and she has been so important for them playing that role. Has broken up attack after attack and kept things organised nicely.

6:20pm- Ottavi isn’t 100%, still looking proppy and Johnson tried to take advantage with a long range chip but the sweeper keeper is well enough to track back and comfortably collect it.

6:17pm- GOAL 1-0 Zebras! Instead it’s the Zebras who take the lead through Lucy Johnson. She nutmegs a defender, and tries to do the same to Ottavi who saves it. The rebounds falls back to Johnson and her second shot is blocked by a defender, but she gets a third crack and this time makes no mistake!

6:15pm- Taroona a whisker away from taking the lead. Again Tolamn storms down the left and puts a cross in across the face of goal which a lunging Blackwood-Coyle can’t quite connect with for what would have been a tap in.

6:12pm- Second half is underway as play resumes. Who can advance through to the final.

5:57pm- Half Time: Zebras 0-0 Taroona. The whistle brings an entertaining first 45 to a conclusion. A pity really cause the game was really coming to life in the last 15 minutes of the half. After a cagey opening the game was starting to open up and the chances were starting to flow. This game could go either way, Zebras have probably just had the better of the game and were peppering the area with balls in the final 5 minutes but Taroona have had a couple of good chances they’ve spurned. It’s just going to be a matter of someone taking one in the second half to decide who meets the Warriors in the final.

5:57pm- Ottavi denies Morris! A clinical counter attack, Delaney started it by winning the ball in defence before working it to Johnson who threaded a wonderful through ball for Morris to run onto. That she did, storming into the box and firing a good shot but Ottavi was outstanding, getting out to make herself big and she gets enough of it to deny the Zebras winger.

5:51pm- Chances at both ends! First Bowden cracks the bar with a drive from distance before a Taroona counter attack ends with Cropp just missing with her effort as she fired from the angle to the far post.

5:45pm! Well judging by that save Ottavi is fine! She had only just come back on and at full extension denies Lucy Johnson’s long range curler. The rebound fell to Burt in the box who really should have scored but she skies her volley over the top, huge save and a huge let off for Taroona after it.

5:38pm- Huge save Ponting! Somehow she clasps the ball between her legs to deny Birch’s hard shot. A free kick was headed to the back post where an unmarked Birch was lurking but Ponting does well to get across, cover the angle and deny her.

5:35pm- Zebras are having the better of the play and shading the midfield battle but finding themselves unable to get past the Taroona defence.

5:30pm- She might be lining up at left back but Ashlee Tolman has looked the Pirates biggest threat in this half so far. Charging forward at every opportunity and really impacting the game. Zebras have some extra cover with Kayla Mason lining up as a right winger (is there a position she hasn’t played in the past 12 months?) And it might be required as they are looking lively down the left through 20 minutes.

5:27pm- Ottavi has been forced off, succumbing to her injury. Perri Lucas looks like she has reprised the role she played on occasion at University last season and replaced her in net.

5:24pm- This one is a real scrap so far. Both teams defending well and looking organised which has led to no real chances. Plenty of challenges flying in and a real midfield battle developing.

5:16pm- Trouble here for Taroona, Izzi “the sweeper keeper” Ottavi slid out for a ball and is now on the ground clutching her knee. Trainer runs out to her. Fingers crossed its not serious, she is going to power on, but got to worry how her movement will be impact, especially given her style of keeping.

5:12pm- A tough physical battle between O’Brien and Tolman the only event of note in the opening five minutes, no clear chance either way to speak of.

5:10pm- Kick off and the second semi is underway.

5:00pm- The starting line ups, play to get underway at around 10 past.

4:52pm- And there it is! The final whistle rings out and Olympia defeat South Hobart 5-1

4:50pm- Final whistle is imminent and that will be relief for South who survive conceding another, just! First Johnston saves well to force a corner before some wizardry on the byline from Bomford sets up a volleyed chance for Crawford that finds side netting only.

4:45pm- GOAL 5-1! It’s party time for the Warriors now, they add a fifth, A mix up at the back allows Marmic to tee up Crawford for a tap in. Has really run the show in the second half Crawford and along with Bomford has been in the top couple of players on the park. South look out on their feet at the back and the Warriors players are just rolling past them now.

4:36pm- GOALAZO! 4-1! Bomford curls in a free kick top window from 20 yards out. A looping, dipping efffort that Johnston can’t get up to and it nestles in the back of the net! That’s the ball game and Olympia are headed to the final! She has been absolutely superb today Bomford and she caps it with a top drawer goal here.

4:32pm- Olympia thought they’d extended their lead but a great decision from the lineswoman spotted the ball had crossed the byline in the lead up and had the flag up immediately.

4:30pm- Djakic spurns a chance to pull it back to 3-2, hasn’t been her clinical self so far today and Olympia breathe a sigh of relief here. Would have been game on if that went in.

4:24pm- GOAL! 3-1! South pull one back through Moutsatsos of the Nikki variety. She gets some space on the right hand side of the box and drives a ferocious effort in at the near post. Hope for South?

4:09pm- GOAL 3-0 Olympia! Jade Williams rolls one home into the far corner and the Warriors have a foot in the final. Kossmann missed a gilt edged chance, lacking conviction with her shot a minute earlier, but the ball comes right back into the box and Williams made no mistake.

4:04pm- Second half is underway,

The Warriors celebrate the opening goal- Solstice Photography

Olympia good value for their lead at the half. South have had a couple of prime chances to hit the scoreboard and get back into the game but on the balance of play, the Warriors deserve to be in front and have had more of the play in an attacking sense. Pretty open and free flowing game for the most part with both sides playing in a positive manner.

3:45pm- Ticking towards half time now with the score still 2-0. Both sides could have hit the net in the past few minutes with Djakic pressured into firing a shot wide before Marmic put her first time effort wide of the post when played through in a 1 v 1.

3:32pm- A strong save from Johnston denies Bomford a second wonder goal, this time waltzing past a defender and firing a shot from inside the box. South just aren’t protecting the central space just outside the 18 yard box well enough. They are defending too passively by sitting off and it’s allowing the likes of  Bomford, playing in the deeper midfield role to bomb forwards and drop into what has consistently been a pretty large pocket of space to shoot and create from. Georgia Crawford who is leading the line for the Warriors is also dropping back deeper to receive the ball and operating in those areas.

Olympia have got the jump on South- Solstice Photography

3:27pm- South miss a prime chance to pull one back immediately. Allanby clears the ball straight into the legs of Fader who shows composure to get around the keeper and set herself but then fires wide of the gaping net. Had to have that one.

3:24pm- GOAL 2-0! The Warriors double their lead and in some style! Olivia Bomford has time and space outside the box and she finesses a curler that lobs her former teammate and into the back of the net. Superb shot from Bomford who has looked very tidy in her midfield role today

3:17pm- South starting to settle into the game now and have launched a couple of incursions into the Olympia area, with Piper Allanby forced to make a strong save, sharply off her line to maintain the lead.

3:11pm- GOAL! 1-0 Olympia Oh boy, disaster at the back for South. Margot Johnston against her old side has fumbled the ball when presented with a chance to kill the play, seemed to be a mix up with her defender. At any rate, it squirts out, deflects into the path of Marmic whose eyes must have turned the size of beach balls when she saw the chance develop in front of her! She charges onto it and smashes the ball into the back of the net.

3:09pm- About five minutes into the game and it has been Olympia doing all the early attacking.

2:50pm- Just about to kick off here at KGC. The squads for the game are

South Hobart- Berell, Carter, Choi, Chugg, Clark, Coy, Djakic, Fader, Ferrier, Fulton, Gossage, Johnston, Kelly, Mcculloch, Moutsatos, Moutsatos, Thapa, Westwood, Winter

12:30pm- Welcome to Slice of Cheese’s coverage of this afternoons Women’s Summer Cup Semi Final double header coming at you from KGV. You can check out the preview of the action here.

First up we have Olympia taking on South Hobart at 3:00pm, the Warriors have been running riot this preseason and will enter as heavy favourites. They are a Championship side in status only and their personnel still ranks among the best squads in the state. South Hobart have perhaps surprised with the level their squad is already at. A couple of handy recruits in Djakic and Johnston have complimented their young core that so impressed in the Championship last year but the Warriors remain a big challenge. We will soon learn just how far South have progressed.

Then the second semi final pits Taroona and Hobart Zebras against each other. They had some classic clashes in the 2017 season including last seasons Summer Cup final. Zebras fought back to win that 2-1 and it was a similar story in their three league meetings, with Zebras winning each of them, 3-2, 2-0 and 1-0 but they were games that could have gone either way. Can this be the day Taroona get over their Zebras hurdle? With the likes of Ayton, Manuela and Tolman out it might just be too soon for them, but they showed last year they can stand toe to toe with Zebras, but it’s been the Zebras who have had the knockout punch for all their opponents in the past 12 months.
