Horgan Stays Committed to Taroona FC

Taroona FC have confirmed their 2018 Coaching Staff, with Ben Horgan been reappointed as coach of the Women’s Super League team (pending successful application).

Horgan is currently undergoing his FFA B-Licence and is looking to continue developing the team.

“I’m really pleased to be able to continue the work that we started this year. It was a year of change and there are many challenges that come with that. We set ourselves ambitious targets and while we made progress in some areas, there is still lots of work to be done. We want to create the sort of club culture that produces top footballers, winning teams and sustained success.”

“We’ve increased the depth of the squad, with a number of young players stepping up to regular senior football for the first time and acquitting themselves well. The biggest challenge for those players is to improve their consistency at that level and to keep learning, while our more experienced players have to lead by example so that as a squad we reach higher levels of performance and start producing results against the top teams.”

A new face will take charge of the 2018 Southern Women’s Championship side, former Taroona FC footballer and 2017 Assistant Coach to Horgan, Karen Wills takes over the role.

Wills is undergoing her FFA C Licence and is a big driving force at the club, she will be looking to fill her squad with young promising future Super League players.

John Meehan will continue in his role as Technical Director, with an increased focus on supporting youth team coaches and strengthening the development pathways to transition even more players into senior football.

“A lot of hard work has gone into establishing high quality junior and youth skill development programs over the last couple of years and we want to continue to look at ways of improving them. We have excellent youth coaches and a promising development squad with a record number of girls selected in state teams this year, and we want to make sure that Taroona is recognised as a club that is totally committed to helping young players reach their full potential in football.”
