Zebras Down Lions In Under 18 Final

Hobart Zebras made it two Summer Cup wins from 2 on the weekend as their Under 18 side followed up their Women’s team’s success by claiming the Under 18 Summer Cup.

In a free flowing decider it was Zebras who downed Kingborough Lions 3-0 in a game they controlled for the most part, with a fine performance from Lions keeper Callum Verdouw helping keep his side close.

After a fairly even first 20 minutes, the Zebras claimed the lead when Brandon Fraser was played in and he fired home to get things off and running.

Ten minutes later it was Chase Clark, who cleverly made some space for himself and fired a shot in to double the lead which they would take into the half.

The Zebras continued to probe in the early moments of the second half but couldn’t find a way past Verdouw and whilst the Lions counter attacks carried a threat, they lacked the end product to get themselves back on the scoreboard.

Having missed a prime chance moments earlier, Fraser then slotted home his second for the game from close range to extend the margin to 3-0 and all but secure the victory.

Zebras came close to adding to the score in the dying embers of the game but there would be no further scoring as the game ended 3-0 in their favour and they raised the trophy as Summer Cup champions.
