The qualifying round of the 2019 Lakoseljac Cup has been played out on Monday, with five qualifiers staged to determine who would join the other 11 sides into the draw for the Round of 16.

At KGV, it was a dominant start to the day from Nelson ESFC, who produced a comprehensive performance to account for cup newcomers South East United, 7-0. Nelson were the stronger side from start to finish and really clicked into gear in the second half, scoring five times to add some emphasis to the final score.

Next up in the KGV triple header was Beachside taking on visiting coastal side Ulverstone and it was the Southerner’s who proved too strong, taking out a physical match 4-1. Ulverstone made a push in the second half, pulling one back after Beachside had built a 3-0 lead, but Beachside quickly reasserted themselves to claim the win.

In the final game it was New Town Eagles who took an early 1-0 lead over University, but the Students worked their way back into it and squared the game at 1-1 by half time. The second half saw University running out the stronger, and advancing through the Round of 16 with a 3-1 victory.

Elsewhere in the South, Metro continued their amazing week, running up the score on the visiting Launceston United to claim a 10-2 win. A first half red card saw United forced down to 10 men, and Metro took full advantage, scoring five goals in each half in a clinical display.

Finally up on the coast, Somerset claimed the Derby over Burnie with a 4-1 victory, as Stuart Batt fired in a hat-trick and Chris Smith produced a classy volleyed goal. Tyler Johnstone provided the highlight of the day for Burnie, scoring a fine chip from distance, but it was not enough for the Emu’s to advance.
