Mckeown Stunner Secures Lions Victory
- Updated: August 1, 2020

The Kingborough Lions have continued their undefeated start to the 2020 season, as they edged out the Clarence Zebras 2-1 at Wentworth Park. A stunning bicycle kick goal from Adam Mckeown sent them on their way and a Danny Cowen goal in the second half would then secure the win.
The former Zebras striker McKeown didn’t take long to come back to haunt them as he produced a goal of the season contender. Chris Downes swung in the set piece and McKeown picked it right on the volley and landed his shot into the bottom right in a moment of pure inspiration.

The home side was able to respond at the 27th minute mark when Matt Pace was taken down by a studs up tackle from Danny Cowen. It was originally waved away but after Referee Nathan Coad checked with his assistant it was awarded a penalty kick.
Up stepped Captain Jayden Hey who picked out the right corner of the goals despite Lee Mackie getting a hand on it.
The Lions would have a penalty of their own soon after as McKeown was once again in the action tangling up with Riley Dillon in the box and winning the spot kick.
Having scored the spectacular, he couldn’t deliver the ordinary however, as his penalty was saved by Joshua Jones before blazing over on the follow up and his former teammates let him know all about it.

As the second half kicked off with the scores locked at 1-1, it didn’t take long for the next goal, as Danny Cowen provided the breakthrough just five minutes after the restart.
Once again in the thick of the action, it was McKeown who provided the assist, finding Cowen at the back post who fired his effort in off the crossbar.
Despite pressure from the home side the Lions were sold in defence throughout the second half and absorbed all that was thrown at them to secure all 3 points.
The Zebras will once again be thinking about their missed chances as they certainly had their moments.
Next weekend the Lions will host Launceston City whilst the Zebras will travel across the Tasman Bridge for a encounter with the surging Glenorchy Knights at KGV.
