Mann Departing For Dandenong

Tasmania’s most potent marksman is off to Victoria, with Brayden Mann announcing his departure to NPL Victoria side, Dandenong Thunder for the 2019 season.

After a six-year stretch of dominance, Mann will leave the NPL TAS as its most decorated player. Across six seasons spent at South Hobart and Devonport, Mann scored a remarkable 157 goals in 123 games, on route to five golden boots and two Mitsubishi Medals. He was a part of three title-winning sides and played in four editions of the FFA Cup.

Having been tempted by a move to test himself in the past, his phenomenal 2018 campaign has seen him decide the time was right for a new challenge. He issued the following statement announcing the move.

“I’d firstly like to thank all of you for the amazing support and the kind messages I have received have truly blessed me. To my Strikers family, thank you all. Thank you for the moments, good and bad, that we’ve all been through together. This incredible journey and ride that I’ve got to share with you all, at such a great club, I’ll be forever grateful for. The Strikers supporters are the best in the state, of any code, and you guys mean the world to me. To have so many of you wish nothing but the best for me and encouraging me on my next journey has honestly made me so humbled and overwhelmed with emotion. It’s so tough to say goodbye to my second home at Valley Road but I know I’ll always be welcome there and I am so grateful for that.”

Mann’s move follows Chris Gallo’s departure, who had earlier in the season urged his former captain to test himself on the big stage. With Michael Holden and Guillermo Lazcano likely to join him in exiting Devonport, the Strikers will now have some major work to do over the offseason to assemble a squad to defend their¬†2018 title.
