Castaneda is congratulated after his screamer- Solstice Photography

7:25pm- Full Time: South Hobart 5-1 Hobart Zebras– Plenty to dissect after that encounter and another interesting day of preseason action. Will have a full wrap of the first week of preseason action up on SOC tomorrow. Recapping all the final scores from today.

Northern Summer Series: Launceston United 1-5 Devonport Strikers, Riverside Olympic 0-6 Launceston City, Northern Rangers 8-0 Ulverstone FC

Men’s Summer Cup: Glenorchy Knights FT: 2-2 Taroona FC (Taroona 7-6 on penalties)

Beachside 1-2 Hobart United, Southern FC s 3-3 (Southern Win in penalties) Metro, New Town Eagles 0-3 University

Women’s Summer Cup: Clarence 1-3 Taroona, Olympia 10-0 University, Hobart Zebras 5-1  Kingborough

7:20pm: OH THAT IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY! Castaneda given space 25 yards out and he unleashes a left foot rocket that thunders in on off the underside of the bar, you cannot strike a ball better than that! South Hobart 5-1 Hobart Zebras.

7:15pm- Had his colours lowered earlier, but that is superb from French, making a triple save as South broke forward 4 v 2 following a Zebras corner. Then minutes later he makes a wonderful diving save at full extension to force a corner.

7:06pm- GOAL! 4-1 South Hobart. Morton makes no mistake this time around, guiding his close range header straight down and into the back of the net.

7:05- Plenty of subs from both sides in this contest which has really taken the flow from the game that we saw in the first half. Zebras not looking as organised anymore, and it’s quite the open game at present.

7:01pm- Nick Morton misses a glorious chance to kill the game, nodding wide from inside the 6 yard box. Game still well within his sides keeping, but that would have been the nail in the coffin.

7:00pm- FULL TIME: Beachside 2-1 Hobart United. United made the Summer Cup final last year and started strongly again this year but fell just short against one of the Championship powerhouses in Beachside.

6:48pm- Sharp chance for Sanders and so close to a goal. His close range header flies wide of the mark. The ball just got to him too quickly to give him adequate time to direct it on net. South have been on top in the second half and had more of the play but that break was a reminder of the threat Zebras posses.

6:40pm- GOAL 3-1 South! Oh a horrible moment for French that. He takes a heavy touch trying to take it round Saracino, slips, loses it to the South youngster who dispatches it into the empty net.

Kemp fires South back into the contest- Solstice Photography

6:22pm- Half Time: South Hobart head into the sheds with a 2-1 lead but its been a very even game and hard fought in trenches. For a preseason game it has been quite a physical encounter. Could go either way.

6:16pm- Full Time: University 3-0 New Town Eagles

6:14pm! GOAL 2-1 South Hobart! A crazy goal there, French did well to initially deny Sculthorpe but the ball kept bobbing around in the air, French couldn’t claim it, mutiple players lept at it, South had one headed attempt blocked but the next lobs over the last man and it’s a headed goal to Pajari Sculthorpe.

6:07pm! Kobe Kemp is given time and space at the top of the box. No shock what transpired next. Kemp rifles an absolute laser into the bottom corner and it’s South Hobart 1-1 Hobart Zebras.

5:53pm- Somehow it stays 1-0, first French makes a good save, then the ball cannons into the post, then there is a mad scramble in the box but the ball stays out and Zebras keep the lead.

Sanders fires Zebras into the lead- Solstice Photography

5:52pm- Huge Save from Kieran Brown! He denies Sklenar’s powerful drive. Zebras are looking good here. Playing a more direct style today.

5:24pm- GOAL! 1-0 Zebras! Sanders hammer home a fine volley, Sklenar crossed for him as the 2 combine.

5:35pm- Today will be a big test of Gabriel Markaj’s management but in terms of his suit game. He is on point, note the Zebras badge on the suit.

-5:30pm About to get underway here at Darcy Street as Zebras and South Hobart make their third appearances of the Summer Series, contrasting 2-0 and 0-2 records thus far.

5:00pm Full Time: Hobart Zebras 5-1 Kingborough

University and New Town are meeting at Warrior Park- Solstice Photography

4:50pm- Half Time and University lead New Town 1-0 in their opening fixture of the preseason.

4:40pm- Hattricks everywhere today! Lucy Johnson chimes in with her third and Hobart Zebras are 5-1 ahead, full time whistle not far away.

4:20pm- Tatton pulls one back for Kingborough against Hobart Zebras, 4-1 now the score.

4:05pm- The next game of the Men’s Summer Cup is underway as New Town take on University.

Southern FC triumph in the shootout- Solstice Photography

4:00pm- Southern FC take the penalty shoot out thanks to 3 consecutive saves from their keeper, they take the extra point after the 3-3 draw in regulation.

3:55pm- We’ve gone to penalties at Warrior Park as Metro and Southern end regulation tied at 3-3.

3:50pm- Half Time: Hobart Zebras 4-0 Kingborough Lucy Johnson has her second and the Zebras are all but through to the final.

3:47pm- Northern Rangers 9-0 Ulverstone- Another member of the hat-trick club, Nick LA joins the list in a thumping win for Rangers.

3:37pm- It’s all happening at Warrior Park, Southern FC now lead 3-2! Metro had the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot but the Southern keeper saved it, and now they have pulled away to what could be a match winning break.

3:35pm- Hobart Zebras have a 2-0 lead over Kingborugh, Lucy Johnson scoring the latest as they convert their territorial dominance onto the scoreboard.

3:25pm- Another hat-trick in the Northern Summer series, that makes one in each game so far! Harry Thannhauser has 3 and Northern Rangers have a commanding 6-0 lead.

-3:05pm- Hobart Zebras looking to book their spot in the final and can do so with a win over Kingborough, that game now underway.

Metro celebrate scoring against Southern- Solstice Photography

2:55pm- Full Time at Olinda Grove, Olympia 10-0 University

2:47pm- Metro and Southern FC are locked at 1-1 in their Summer Cup clash at Warrior park at half time.

2:35pm- Northern Rangers following their fellow NPL sides lead and putting on a strong showing. They lead 3-0 over Ulverstone with goals from Nick LA, Thannhauser and Cristy.

2:40pm- Olympia 10-0 University Not so much urgency in the second half with the game well in the keeping but the Warriors have added 2 more goals.

2:00pm- Southern FC v Metro and Northern Rangers v Ulverstone about to get underway.

1:52pm- Half Time: Olympia 7-0 University- An absolute rout at Olinda Grove, the Warriors simply doing as they will and remarkably could have had even more goals if they were more clinical.

1:50pm- Full Time: Launceston City 6-0 Riverside- Noah Mies completes a hat-trick as City run out comfortable leaders.

1:45pm- Launceston City make it 5-0 as Jarrod Linger continues his quality preseason, with another goal.

1:26pm- Another goal for last seasons Rising Star winner Noah Mies, he has 2, Launceston City lead 4-0!

The Warriors are rolling- Solstice Photography

1:25pm- The Warriors are running up the score on University, just past the 20 minute mark and it’s 5-0! This could get very ugly, it seems a mismatch.

1:12pm- 1-0 Olympia! The Warriors open the scoring inside the first 10 minutes through Craw.

1:00pm- About to get underway at Olinda Grove as University host Olympia. After last week you’d have to say the Warriors are red hot favourites.

12:50pm- Half Time and it remains 3-0 to Launceston City at Valley Road.

Taroona celebrate their late win- Solstice Photography

12:45pm- 3-1 Taroona! The Dam wall has burst now and Taroona will get the win that their play has warranted. They dominated this second half and now have the goals to show for it. The Full time whistle follows shortly after. The Pirates claim the 3-0 victory.

12:42pm- Tyler Fischer makes it 3-0 for Launceston City as he gets his first goal for his new club, the former Devonport Strikers import who has made the move to Buckby Park.

12:40pm- GOAL! Finally Taroona break the Clarence resistance and it can’t be too far from the final whistle so that is timely. Dunbabin drives it home and Taroona lead 2-1!

12:35pm- Launceston City 2-0 Riverside! A strong start from City with Noah Mies firing in their second after Dorazio opened the scoring to give them a comfortable early lead. The NPL sides doing the job against their Championship opponents thus far in the North.

12:30pm- Taroona are knocking on the door and controlling the game but can’t find the go ahead goal. Clarence doing well to hold them out, they are on the back foot now but are looking disciplined and as per usual Vanderniet is doing as Vanderniet does in goal.

12:05pm- The Launceston City boys prepare to take the pitch in game 2 at Valley Road up against Riverside.

11:50am- Full Time: Devonport 5-1 Launceston United A strong start to the Summer Series for the Strikers, we will see how they fare against NPL opposition in the coming weeks but things are shaping up nicely for the Coastal powerhouse.

11:50am- Half Time Clarence 1-1 Taroona- It looks a much improved Clarence side so far in 2018 and they are taking the fight to Taroona here. It’s been a pretty open encounter that Taroona got on top of as the half wore on, but a game that could go either way heading into the second half.

11:45am- Make that 5-1 Devonport! AND ALL 5 FOR JACKSON! The last 3 of which have been assisted by Eddie Bidwell! Bit of chemistry there apparently!

11:35am- That makes 4 goals now for Daniel Jackson! The Strikers have a good track record with import players and early impressions are they have another great one here. You can read more about him in the article Brad Cole of the Advocate wrote earlier this week.

11:30am-Multiple goals to report, Taroona have pulled it back to 1-1 as they scrape back against Clarence, regaining some of the ascendancy in the game. Whilst Devonport have added a fourth against Launceston United, making it 4-1!

11:22am- Devonport 3-1! Make that a hat-trick to Daniel Jackson as the Strikers pull away with 20 minutes left to play. Bidwell with the assist as the young full back put in a fine cross.

11:05am- Underway at Olinda Grove and Clarence have taken a 1-0 lead over Clarence in the early minutes there.

10:55am:- Half Time at Valley Road and Devonport lead 2-1, a Daniel Jackson double giving them a 2 goal lead before an own goal pulled Launceston United back into it.

10:00am- Another big day of action today, starting up North with Devonport against Launceston United, kicking off shortly. Last night, Taroona FC surprised Glenorchy Knights with a win in penalties, after it ended 2-2 in regulation.

The preseason action continues over the weekend, with the Men’s Summer Cup getting underway to join the rest of the senior competitions. It begins on Friday night with Glenorchy Knights, who are already underway in the Summer Series taking on Taroona. Then on Saturday another of the Veto Southern Championship’s lead contenders Beachside, kick off their preseason against Hobart United. A double header at Warrior Park sees Southern taking on Metro and New Town playing University to round out the first week of the competition.

On the Women’s side of things, Olympia will be looking to make it 2/2 as they clash with University and if Clarence can upset Taroona it would set up a virtual Semi Final next week between the two. The Pirates should get some players back this week however and will enter the game as favourites. In group B Hobart Zebras can book their place in the final if they beat Kingborough Lions, having got past Olympia the week prior.

Meanwhile the Southern Summer series sees just the one game this week, with Zebras and South Hobart playing their 3rd game in a busy week of action when they meet at Darcy Street. With contrasting records of 0-2 and 2-0 heading into the game, it will be an important match for different reasons for the sides.

In the North we have another triple header at Valley Road as Devonport kick things off against Launceston United where they will look to stamp themselves on the competition by making it 6 points from 6 before Riverside, who forfeited last week, start their year up against Launceston City. The final game will see Northern Rangers looking to get their opening win of the round robin when they play Ulverstone.

Scores will be updated below and updates posted over the course of the weekend as reports come in from around the grounds.
