Full Time: Devonport 2-1 South Hobart

The Strikers have stunned the hosts with their late goal and claimed the victory.

85′ GOAL! 2-1 ! Joel Stone turns one home through a sea of bodies in the box.

84′ Wright denies a powerful Jackson shot on the turn at the top of the box.

65′ GOAL! 1-1 Dan Brown smashes a perfect header from a free kick into the far corner of the net, powerful stuff.

55′ Gorrie’s cross from the wing chips Pitchford and lands on the crossbar, nearly a spectacular albeit accidental leveller.

52′ Kemp drives a shot from 25 yards straight at Pitchford, had the power but not the direction.

46′ Play resumes at Darcy Street.

Half Time

42′ GOAL! 1-0 Devonport, Holden heads forward for Mann who runs onto it and smashes it past Wright.

36′ Gorrie crosses for De Vechhi Marins who nods over the bar, South starting to create some good goal scoring looks here.

35′ SAVE! Pitchford with a top drawer save at full extension to deny Turners acrobatic volley.

32′ Pitchford gets a piece of it as Saracino tries to slide one through his legs and its behind for a corner. So close to 1-0 there.

29′ Mulraney with a goal saving block to deny a Walter volley, moments earlier Krusa made a vital sliding challenge from behind to stop a Morton shot.

24′ Bidwell tries to chip Wright from range but its narrowly over.

Devonport having the better of the game so far and asking more questions of the South defence than vice verca but its been a game of few chances thus far. The passing of both teams has lacked its usual crispness.

18′ Turner blazes over from distance.

16 Cleared off the line! Thomas denies a powerful Holden drive with a goal line block.

1′ Kick off, we are underway.

A huge game today as the Devonport Strikers brutal stretch of schedule continues, this time sending them to Darcy Street to take on South Hobart. It’s a contest that makes me wonder, how early can games be considered ‘Must Win’? I would normally think Round 4 is far too early for such labels, but the fact remains that a loss for either of these sides could leave them 8 points behind the leaders. Of course there is plenty of time to catch up if either can launch a winning streak like they have in the past 2 seasons, but it’s a lot of ground to cede in the title race so early on. They say titles can’t be won in the opening month, but they can be lost. Dropping points today would be a huge blow for either side’s title hopes, making 3 points for both these sides absolutely vital.
