Full Time: Devonport 4-0 Glenorchy Knights

The Strikers continue their perfect start to the season, the defending Champions are sitting pretty atop the table with 9 points from 3 games. For Knights, they are learning how unforgiving this league can be, and will be hoping to get a few of these players back from injury asap.

88′ Slice of Cheese! Nowicki into the book for clattering into Fitzgerald.

87′ Not long left now and the game is rather going through the motions, tempo has gone out of it entirely.

The Strikers perfectly content to keep the ball and see this game out, been a professional job from them in the second half, making sure of the win.

79′ SAVE! Pitchford protects his clean sheet with a top class save. He denies Brown after he played a sharp 1-2 and had charged into a great scoring position in the box, but he can’t beat Pitchford.

78′ SUB- Bidwell replaced by West

76′ Fitzgerald does well on the left and crosses for Barnard who smashes it over the bar. Corner awarded so must have taken a touch off the defender.

71′ Stoppage here as Jake Stuart gets some treatment for a head knock, he crashed into the turf rather hard there.

68′ Some nice play from Bellini of the Thomas variety creates a chance for Stuart at the near post, but he can’t work his shot back on target and finds the side netting.

67′ SUB- Barnard on for Smith, Bidwell will shift into left back.

66′ Lazcano chips to the back post where Fitzgerald rises to nod a shot on target.

56′ Slice of Cheese! Stone brings down Kadisha, and the Knights defender reacts by shoving him as he gets back to his feet. Into the book he goes.

54′ Woodwork! Declan Brown weaves past 2 and smashes a shot at Pitchford’s near post that clatters straight into the woodwork!

49′ Syson with a clever flick to Denehey all on his own at the top of the box, but his rasping drive flies over.

46′ Save! Lerosignol makes a big kick save to deny Denehey an immediate goal. Bidwell had played him in behind and he tore through one on one, only to be denied.

46′ Second half is underway, the Strikers have subbed off Hingston for Denehey.

Half Time: Devonport 4-0 Knights

Well what a 45 minutes of football that was from the Strikers! Scintillating stuff in attack, they’ve simply overwhelmed the undermanned Knights side, who just can’t keep up with the movement of the Strikers forwards. Fitzgerald has torn them apart and as their confidence has grown, the Knights has diminished. They need to dig deep here, or this could end up a cricket score. The Strikers are making a statement to the rest of the league right now.

43′ SAVE! They were lining up in the middle! Three men unmarked as the ball comes in from the right, but the ball pops up off Giampaoli and Lerosignol makes a despairing save to keep it out.

41′ GOAL! 4-0! Giampaoli! A driving run from Fitzgerald, beating a couple before timing his pass to perfection for the Argentine to run onto, and he picks out the corner with a delightful finish.

35′ Knights with a couple of promising incursions, but the Strikers defence make well timed tackles to stop scoring chances being produced.

30′ Another good chance for Stone, after Bidwells cross was no dealt with by the Knights defence, but he can’t quite bring under his spell in the middle of the box and the ball is whisked away before he can get a shot off.

Pitchford with some nimble feet, cool as the other side of the pillow as he skips past a pressing defender before launching it forwards.

22′ GOAL! 3-0! A corner leads to a scramble in the box, Parke is on hand to place it home and the Strikers have another. They are taking their chances today!

20′ GOAL! 2-0! SYSON! Another stunner from Syson, he curls it from outside the box on the left foot and it crashes in off the crossbar. What an inspired start to the season from the Prodigal Son!

19′ Slice of Cheese! A cynical foul from Brown to bring down Giampaoli, steps into his path.

19′ Stone leads the Knights defence a merry dance, weaving one way then the other then fires a shot that Lerosignol gets down to.

17′ Giampaoli plays it over the top for Lazcano who runs onto it and blasts a left footed volley over the top. Good defensive pressure by Kadisha to put off the shot.

15′ Knights trying to get back on terms with a long range effort from Naden that flies wide.

12′ GOAL! 1-0! Bidwell! A first ever NPL goal for Bidwell. He nods home at the back post after a cross from the left wing from Stone picked him out, some nice footwork from Stone to find space to cross too, lovely goal.

Knights are playing a very high line and its caught the Strikers out a few times already. Real game of cat and mouse developing in that regard. Strikers shading possession but not overly troubling Knights just  yet.

8′ Stone bends a free kick that clips the top of the ball is easily gathered by Lerosignol.

6′ Crossbar! Stone receives from Lazcano and from 20 yards he bends a wonderful left footed effort that clatters into the crossbar, so close!

4′ A mistimed clearance presents a chance for the Argentine, Giampaoli, who puls his shot wide from the top of the box.

2′ Fitzgerald seems to be in and rounds the keeper, but the flag goes up to deny him.

1′ We are underway here at last, game kicking off at 2:18pm.

Bit of a delayed kick  off coming up here, previous game running overtime has us on track for a start at about 2:10-2:15pm.

Squads:

An intriguing clash here at Valley Road this afternoon, as the big games keep on coming in the NPL TAS. Devonport have started the season with a pair of impressive wins, looking a team that wants to control possession and the tempo of games and doing so successfully. Knights started with a huge 5-1 win over Riverside, and came flying out of the blocks against Olympia, but couldn’t sustain it. They have copped a few injuries of late, so this is a daunting trip and a big test for just where they are at against the defending champions.
