Devonport v Clarence

 Shots Off

Full Time: Devonport 7-0 Clarence

88′ Some desperate defence from Palmer and a well timed dive from Voss deny Mann his 4th. Sting has really gone out of this game in the last 15 minutes, and the tempo.

82′ Double Sub- The imports Krusa and Lazcano are replaced by Dance and Andrews.

79′ The Subs combine as Snell’s deflected cross sets up a volleyed chance for Voss but from close range he fires straight at Pitchford.

Sub- West comes on for Dance.

73′ Voss makes his second good save in the space of a couple of minutes, turning Mann’s shot past the post.

They hit 10 past them at Valley Road last year and could repeat the dose today the way things are looking. Not a happy hunting ground for the Reds this. Amazing to think Clarence won 2-1 when the sides last met in Round 20 last year.

68′ GOAL 7-0! Mann now also with a hat-trick, a clever dummy from Jackson allowing it run between his legs and Mann takes a touch then hammers home his third.

Triple Sub- Clarence bring on Voss, Snell and Houston for Hardwick, Reibell and Lang.

56′ SAVE! Top drawer from Voss prevents a 7th with a diving one handed save. Dance was all alone on the  left hand side of the box and he fired off a well placed shot, but not quite good enough.

52′ GOAL! 6-0! Blizzard wins a tackle in the box and it spills to the feet of Brayden Mann who accepts the gift and fires home for his second of the day.

50′ Dance ends a mazy run with a powerful drive that flies narrowly over the bar. Worrying signs for Clarence early in the second, seems like more of the same coming up.

46′ GOAL! 5-0! That didn’t take long! Daniel Jackson waltzes into the box and smashes it near post past Voss. That took just 35 seconds after the restart.

46′ Back underway for the second 45.

A dominant first 45 from the Strikers, they are in complete command, moving the ball around the pitch at great speed and pulling the Clarence defence apart. This has been a mismatch and Clarence will need to adjust at the break or this lovely new Valley Road scoreboard might get a major test run.

45+1′ SLICE OF CHEESE! Palmer into the book for a late challenge to bring down Dance.

45′ GOAL! 4-0! They add another before the break. A long ball over the top is brought down on the left foot with a silky Brayden Mann first touch and then he clinically strokes home with his next touch.

39′ Voss to the rescue as he comes flying off his line to beat Jackson to the ball after he skipped past a defender and looked in on goal

36′ Dom Smith heads a close range header over the bar, probably should have done better.

35′ Daniel Jackson with a ferocious drive from the edge of the box that just slides wide.

31′ GOAL! 3-0! Holden steps up and smashes it home, a 30 minute hat-trick for Holden! Not a bad scoring pace that!

30′ PENALTY! A long diaganol into the box finds Mann who volleys wide but gets taken out by Voss in the process.

30′ Well half an hour into this one now and it’s the Strikers in complete command, Clarence have been pinned back in their own box defending and for the most part have protected that area of the field well. Michael Holden’s twice been given space from long range though and that’s why it’s 2-0.

26′ Blizzard’s deflected effort just slides past the post and behind for a corner.

23′ Mann smashes a free kick over the bar, pretty fluid system the Strikers seem to be playing, Mann, jac

17′ Jez Price with a crucial goal line block to deny what looked a certain Daniel Jackson goal. The Strikers are playing some sumptuous football right now.

14′ GOAL! 2-0! HE’S DONE IT AGAIN! MICHAEL HOLDEN IS ON FIRE! This time he finds a small pocket of space from inside the D at the top of the box and he curls this one top window. What a start tot the season for Turtle!

10′ Shot on! Holden tries to chip Voss with a dipping free kick from 30 yards that was dropping in but Voss fingertips it behind for a corner.

7′ GOAL!! 1-0 Strikers! OH WHAT A HIT! Pure power from Michael Holden who starts his season in style, he received the ball 25 yards out, in plenty of space and drove an absolute howitzer that Voss cannnot keep out.

2′ An immediate chance for the Strikers, A clever pass from Mann frees Dance wide on the left and he crosses for Blizzard who directs his glancing header wide.

1′ Kick off, we are underway at Valley Road.

Welcome to Valley Road for this Round 1 clash between Devonport and Clarence, Andrew Cooling blogging this one. It’s an absolute belter of a day, the sun is shining and you couldn’t ask for better conditions for football. I’ve made the hustle up the highway and just made it in time for kick off, think the Strikers should be too strong today and I’m looking forward to having a close up look at them. No time for an extensive preview, but would reccomend checking out Alex Fair’s piece where he caught up with Strikers keeper, Nathan Pitchford.
