FULL TIME: Hobart Zebras 2-1 Devonport

Hobart Zebras turn the tables, after a poor first 45 and in a much more even second half they struck twice. Devonport will rue their first half misses though, they should have had the 3 points sewn up early. The hero of the day is Jake French though, who was enormous between the sticks.

We remarkably have gone 98 minutes here, still we play on!!!,

79′ GOAL 2-1 ZEBRAS! Sanders turns home a rebound after, a great Pitchford save denied  Sklenar header.

70′ GOAL! Sanders converts into the bottom left and its 1-0 Zebras.!

69′ PENALTY! Pitchford collects Sklenar in his follow through and Kopra points to the spot.

66′ Muller’s volley is well hit but palmed over well by Pitchford.

63′ Huge penalty shout for Bidwell in the box turned away.

61′ Barnard who has just come for Jackson tries to drive on near post but its straight

46′ Play resumes/

45′ French with yet another stop to deny a clever little redirect and thats the last major action of the half. it has beeen 45 minutes of pure Devonport domination but they cannot find a way past an inspired Jake French in the Zebras net. A lack of a clinical edge cost them against Olympia, its threatening to do so again. The Zebras meanwhile need to readjust because they are being completely battered.

35′ Huigsloot going to have to be taken off here after a head knock has left him floored, was recently out for concussion so this is not good signs.

29′  Jackson beats Walsh all ends up then drives on that French does ever so well to save.

21′ French with his third good save, denying Jackson at the near post.

18′ French with a huge save to deny Jackson after he surged in behind on a slight angle.

10′ Sklenar crosses for Sanders who volleys a good chance wide, after a promising counter.

1′ Devonport nearly open the scoring twice in the first minute, first Mann is played in 1 v 1 only to be denied by French, before the offside flag denies him a goal.

Two of the favourites for the title square off at Valley Road. The Devonport Strikers welcome the red hot Hobart Zebras to town for the most hotly anticipated game of the round.  In their recent contests at Valley Road the ledger is square, which is a good return from a Zebras perspective. Last year was a 2-2 draw, the year before the meetings were split 1 win each. It’s worth noting that that was the only time Devonport dropped points at home all season in 2016 as they stormed to the title, so the venue should hold no fear for the Zebras despite obviously being an advantage for Devonport. The Strikers defence has looked well organised so far and has some decent pace in it which looks key to stopping a Zebras team with some serious wheels down the flanks who have exploited a lack of that in their opposition so far. These are two sides who play a positive brand of football, they like to maximise the width of a ground and move the ball with quick passing games. This should be one for the purists and one of the more aesthetically pleasing games you’ll see and whoever takes the points will be well poised for success this year
