Full Time: Hobart Zebras 9-0 Clarence

An utterly dominant display from the Zebras tonight, real gulf between these sides and it showed. Clarence tried to park it, but they invited pressure that the Zebras converted in goals, really overrunning them in the second half.

90′ Good save from French, reacting sharply to stop McKeown.

90′ Ackerley charges at the defence and then smashes one just past the post.

89′ Sanders should have had a fifth! Blazes over from close range.

88′ GOAL! 9-0! Sanders! Another, and another assist from Dillon, sets him up in the box and again he buries it.

86′ Superb ball from Dillon, stands it up into the box and Mckeown gets his head to it, but is denied by French.

82′ Lachie Burt tests French with a well placed shot but a diving French keeps it out.

81′ French dives across to deny a Mckeown header, may have been creeping wide.

80′ Shot on! Kunwar runs in behind on the angle and fires but he doesn’t test Whatman who collects.

SUB- Pace, taking full advantage of a start tonight with a lively display makes way for Mckeown.

79′ GOAL! 8-0! Edwards gets another! Some more tidy passing combination play between Sanders, Pace and finished with aplomb by Edwards.

76′ Slice of Cheese! Snell into the book.

75′ Shot on! Charuza volleys one right at French. Feel sorry for the Clarence keeper tonight, he has made a few nice saves, but there is just nothing he has been able to do about the goals, been on a hiding to nothing.

Another SUB as Randall replaces Lush.

SUBS- Wilcox replaced by Amani for Clarence. Concern for the Zebras with Muller looking in some pain and limping off, he is replaced by Ackerley

70′ GOAL! 7-0! Sanders bags a fourth from all of 2 yards out, nicely worked move from the right by Edwards to put it on a platter.

68′ GOAL! 6-0! Pace with a lovely bender from the top of the box, curls it to perfection and picks out the top window.

SUB- Price is replaced by Houston.

62′ GOAL! 5-0! Edwards gets his account open, all to easy as he pounces on a loose ball in the middle of the box and drives home!

61′ SUB- Lachie Burt on for Huigsloot. The opposing manager is his old man, so interesting little wrinkle that.

55′ GOAL! 4-0! Pace this time! A glancing header after a good cross in was headed back to him and the Zebras are taking their chances so far this half!

53′ GOAL! 3-0! Another hat-trick for Sanders against Clarence, Edwards nods it into his path, he awaits in the middle of the box and strokes home. 17 in 7 games against Clarence since his return to the NPL TAS!

52′ Clarence’s first chance of the game is a prime one, Smith with a shot in the middle of the box but it gets blocked away, big look that!

50′ Sanders picks out Pace, who nods a header just over the bar.

47′ Edwards screws a shot well wide of the mark from range.

46′ Second half resumption.

HALF TIME: Hobart Zebras 2-0 Clarence

All one way traffic here, Clarence have done a pretty good job keeping compact, but they are being shelled and some more accurate shooting could have this game reading a far more decisive scoreline.

42′ Edwards with a fine teasing cross that is a whisker wide of Sanders getting on the end of it.

41′ Dillon pulls it wide from the top of the box, the shooting gallery continues but the Zebras haven’t quite had the radar dialled in.

37′ Hey with a couple of shots from the top of the box in quick succession, both finessed just wide.

36′ Whatman is sharp off his line, and a long way off it too, to beat Snell to the ball and smash it away.

32′ Shot off! Sanders picked out by Dillon at the back post but his header is wide of the mark. Zebras all over them so far.

29′ GOAL! 2-0! Sanders again, finishing off some brilliant work from Dillon out wide, the Colonel taps home.

27′ Kunwar with Clarence’s first real foray forward, and Whatman collects.

24′ Huge shouts for handball! But turned down! A Dillon free kick causing big problems in the box and its stopped on the line.

18′ Crossbar! Huigsloot absolutely rockets a volley that smashes into the crossbar, the follow up shot from Sanders hits the side netting

16′ Sanders from the top of the box tries an audacious left footed volley after Huigsloot picked him out, side netting only.

12′ GOAL! 1-0! Sanders! Suspicions of offside as Sanders picks it up in the box and rockets an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net! Clarence defence clearly expected a flag, none forthcoming.

10′ First chance of the game sees French making a nice diving save to deny a shot from range.

10′ The game being played entirely in the Zebras final third so far, probing and testing a Reds defence that is holding out well so far.

3′ Pace comes very close from inside the 6 yard box, firing one just past the near post after a cross in from the right.

1′ Shot on! A header from Dillon after a delightful cross from Pace but its straight at the former Zebra Jake French. In net against his old side first up.

1′ Kick off!

Hobart Zebras and Clarence United open up their 2019 campaigns tonight at KGV. Zebras will be the overwhelming favourites based on the preseason form and last seasons finishing positions, but early rounds often throw up surprises. Whilst there has been some concern around the Reds given their recent results, they should field a much stronger squad tonight. They will need it though, against a Zebras team expected to challenge for the title, and who have looked sharp through the preseason action. Two managerial debuts in the League tonight, with David Smith and Warren Burt set to coach their first competitive games at their new clubs.
