Full Time: University 2-0 Kingborough

Full Time and thats a huge win for the Students, they claim a second win of the year. Probably deserved on the balance of play, it was a game of few real chances and controlled by the defences but University didn’t look like being pegged back once they went 2-0 ahead.

85′ Slice of Cheese! Hale into the book for a professional foul on Young, the resulting free kick is collected by Gardner, but time is running out for the Lions here.

78′ Watkins making inroads down the left again and almost links up with Davis but Sleeman collects.

76′ Loud appeals for a penalty after Davis goes down in the box but they are waved away and the ball is behind for a corner.

65′ Kingborough with a pair of corners and a good spell of pressure but the University defence is standing strong.

63′ Shot off! Young tries to curl one from range but it floats over the top.

61′ SUB-Ingham on for Tantari for the Bees.

55′ Stoppage here as Moore is done with an injury and that brings her day to an end, walks off under her own steam but is replaced by Hickman.

53′ Sleeman does well to grab a Watkins cross as she tried to pick out Davis. The Lions responding well to going behind and surging.

52′ Emile Tatton with a simply dazzling run, she skipped around two defenders, showing wonderful close control before firing a shot straight at the keeper from the angle which is turned away.

50′ GOAL! 2-0! University! Olivia Young curls in a corner that bends back on the breeze, nobody deals with it and the late clearance is too late, the ball had crossed the line. Young scores from the corner!

48’Both sides looking to get on the front foot and have early attacking incursions but both

Half Time: University 1-1 Kingborough

A pretty scrappy first half with both defences dominant and snuffing out chances before they have developed. Apart from a minute when the game break open and both sides scored it has been pretty dour stuff. A bit more creativity going to be required in the final third in the second.

38′ Sophie Young sneaks in behind and is through 1 on 1 with the keeper but she skews the effort off the side of the boot and the moment goes begging.

Scrap that, apparently a foul in the lead up has seen the goal disallowed, it remains 1-0.

30′ GOAL! 1-1! Davis! The Lions hit back immediately, though its calamitous at the back from the Students. Watkins’s cross is fumbled by the keeper straight to Davis who bundles it home from all of a yard out.

29′ GOAL! 1-0! Gardiner, breaks in behind down the right and again fires a low driven effort that deflects off a defender and in.

25′ Riana Gardiner tears off down the right and beats her marker but the end product is lacking. Both sides lacking some polish in the final third thus far.

15′ After a quarter of an hour this game has been bogged down in the middle for the most part. Both defence are firmly on top and we are yet to see a clear chance develop.

5′ The wind is really howling through Lightwood Park at the moment, at the Lions backs so they will want to take advantage of that in the first 45. No early chances have developed though.

1′ We are underway at Lightwood Park.

Kingborough Lions hosting University. Both teams have picked up their first wins of the season in recent weeks with victories over Clarence but the Lions win was certainly more emphatic in the process which suggests they have the edge in this meeting. Last season they split their contests 1-1-1 so University have shown they are capable of taking points from them, though the Lions victory did come at home where this game will be played.
