Full time – Launceston City 4 – 1 Northern Rangers

89′ Slice of cheese for Ngor.

86′ GOAL! Rangers make it 4-1 late on from a corner. Niko went out to punch but didn’t manage to get enough on it and it’s headed home at the far post.

85′ Millington concedes a foul on Nick LA just outside the area. A real chance for the Rangers here.

82′ A. Fulton hits one from distance but it’s wide of the goal.

79′ Slice of cheese. Nick LA picks up a yellow after some verbal abuse to the linesman who called him offside after scoring.

78′ Pat LA collects a cross at the back post and puts it back into the mix. Cristy his a nearly unmissable shot high and over the crossbar.

76′ Save from Niko! Nick LA couldn’t beat the Canadian from the spot. The follow up hits the post and is collected by the City defence to clear.

76′ Penalty given to Rangers!

73′ Linger with a nice little bit of link-up play with Smith. He gets into the box but his shot his shy of the far post.

Substitution for Rangers. Mccallumsmith ON. Youd OFF.

Substitution for Rangers. Ngor ON. Humphrey OFF.

61′ Anderson crosses in to Nick LA whose header looked good until Niko came out to block it straight away.

60′ Linger heads it home brilliantly past a diving Smith, but is called offside.

52′ GOAL! 4-0 City. Fischer puts in a cross to the back post. It falls to Smith who puts it away from close range.

50′ Burk fouls Fischer on the left. Syson with some set-piece trickery which nearly catches the Rangers defence off guard but they manage to clear it.

Second half is underway

It’s been a matter of efficiency and errors that mean City go into the sheds 3-0 up. Rangers have had more attempts at goal, but City are the ones that have converted their chances. Conceding two goals in as many minutes just 10 minutes into the half will have definitely been a disappointment for the Rangers. It looks like the Challenge Cup will go back to Prospect this year.

Halftime – Launceston City 3 – 0 Northern Rangers

38′ GOAL! Smith with a colossal error. Comes out to punch with one hand and sends it straight into the air. While he was still on the ground Mies volleyed home easily into an empty net. 3-0 City.

Substitution for Rangers. Whatman OFF. Smith ON. Whatman holding his back as he walks off.

32′ I believe it was Pat LA who put a powerful cross into the middle to find his teammate who puts it over from 6 yards on the volley.

Turner is playing his last game for City before heading off to play college soccer in the USA.

27′ Nick LA tries to take it past Turner. Turner slides in brilliantly to block the cross.

25′ Anderson puts a long ball over the top that’s headed down to Cristy in space. His shot wasn’t well hit it goes well off target.

20′ Burk gets a cross in from deep. Thannhauser gets up but heads it wide.

19′ Syson puts in the corner but its punched clear by Whatman.

11′ Pat LA puts in a cross from the right which isn’t dealt with by Millington. Nick LA’s shot is saved by Niko.

9′ GOAL! Mies makes it 2-0.

8′ GOAL! Syson puts City 1-0 up after hitting a long shot. The ball bounced just before Whatman and skipped, making it very difficult to judge.

7′ Some stepovers from Cristy at the top of the box before shooting straight at the keeper. Not really challenging anyone.

The live ladder before kick-off has Devonport sitting 8 points clear, meaning a win is vital for City here today.

4′ Nick LA with the first shot on target, forcing a diving save from Niko with the outside of his left boot.

Rangers possibly lining up in a 5-at-the-back with Burk and Pat LA as wing backs.

Kick off – We are underway

Roger Mies stepping in for the absent Jez Kenth again today.

With Devonport looking likely to pick up the three points against the Zebras, this is a must-win game for City if they want to not let the Strikers extend their lead at the top of the table.

Launceston City – Campbell, Dorazio, Fischer, Giantsopoulos, Goold, Linger, Mies, Millington, Smith, Syson, Turner. OFF Dyer, Egan, Hancox, Smith, Wicks.

Northern Rangers – Anderson, Burk, Cristy, A. Fulton, J. Fulton, Humphrey, N. Lanau-Atkinson, P. Lanau-Atkinson, Thannhauser, Whatman, Youd. OFF Maccallumsmith, Ngor, Roberts, Smith.

The final leg in the Challenge Cup for the two Launceston-based sides. If it’s anything like the previous two encounters, it’s likely to be a fiery affair at Buckby Land Rover Park. City will be looking to keep the pressure on Devonport, while Rangers will be wanting to accumulate as many points as possible to ensure a place in the NPL Finals series.
