FULL TIME: KINGBOROUGH 4-2 HOBART ZEBRAS

There goes the final whistle and its the Lions into the decider! Completely deserved, they were outstanding tonight and played the best game I have seen from this group over the past few years. Laura Davis underlined her status as one of the best players in the game and put on an absolute tour de force in attack.

90+1′ Ollington comes so close to putting the cherry on top as her effort creeps cm’s past the post.

90′ A pair of late chances for the Zebras after a corner, with a header off the line then shot flying over the bar.

85′ Davis with another run from her own half, carrying it to the opposing box, but this time Zoe Nichols had determinedly tracked her back and executes a strong challenge.

Huge miss that, with the Lions flagging a little, that would have really dialled the pressure up for the final 15 minutes.

78′ WIDE! Burt sends her spot kick wide and the Lions breathe a sigh of relief.

77′ PENALTY! A free kick into the box and a penalty has been found there for some infringement.

75′ Burt lands a speculative effort on the roof of the goal.

70′ GOAL! DAVIS! 4-2! IT HAS BEEN HER NIGHT! She beats 3 defenders, taking it into the 6 yard box, she is finally dispossessed but the ball bobs up and she pokes home her fourth! Incredible solo goal and an incredible individual performance.

69′ Ollington with some lovely skills to beat a defender but Mason does just enough to block her shot.

Halfway through the second half and the Zebras have cut the lead to just a single goal. The Lions no longer buzzing around the pitch with the frenetic energy they had in the first half, perhaps a few signs of fatigue. Not sure they can just simply look to hold on here, they may well need another goal the way this is shaping.

65′ Horgan whips a free kick in that Cook collects with a minimal fuss.

60′ GOAL! 3-2! Game on!!! Hulton with another, curling it from range. Mackintosh gets a hand on it but can’t keep it out.

56′ GOAL! 3-1! Lily Hulton pulls one back for the Zebras, smashing it from out on the right she lobs into the back of the net.

53′ Been really impressed with Amy Ollington at right full back. She wins a corner here after another surging run down the wing. She has been getting forward and overlapping into the box all evening.

49′ Davis almost with a fourth! Holding off the attentions of Mason she gets the shot away and its narrowly wide of the post.

48′ Welcome to the game Erika Mackintosh! Subbed into goals and she comes up big, diving to grasp the ball and thwart a dangerous attack after some nice passing between Hulton and Nichols.

46′ Second half underway, can we see a big fightback? Or is this one done?

Half Time: Kingborough 3-0 Hobart Zebras

Well, I didn’t see this coming, what loomed as a real tight battle has been anything but. The Lions have produced 45 minutes of superb football, with Davis running riot in attack and the Zebras have simply been unable to cope. This has been scintillating stuff from Kingborough, they have pulled the Zebras apart and have one foot in the final! It would take something extraordinary to change things now.

45′ GOAL! 3-0! Davis hattrick! But this was all Tatton, she skipped past a defender, walked the byline then put it on a platter for Davis to tap home.

45′ Cook with an easy collect as De Smit curled one that might have just been bending wide.

43′ An offside flag is raised to deny Kannegiesser after a really smart flick on from Nichols.

41′ Shot volume is high from Davis tonight, she fires on the turn but this time its a much easier save for Cook.

41′ SAVE! HUGE SAVE COOK! She gets down and across at full extension to deny the outstanding Davis a first half hat-trick.

40′ Tatton is denied by a quality piece of keeping from Cook after she was played in by Davis. The Lions are looking such a threat in attack, hitting them with speed and causing big problems.

35′ GOAL! 2-0! Davis at the double, she is given too much space in the box and rockets one past the right glove of Cook.

33′ Mason gets across to block a Davis shot from an angle, behind for a corner.

32′ Gardner waits on a ball and Nichols nips in ahead but directs her effort wide, not far away there!

31′ A chance falls to Kannegiesser back in the box but she pokes a left foot at it and its wide.

26′ Some scrambling defence required from the Zebras as the Lions enjoy a nice spell but they can’t forge a clear cut chance. Kannegiesser has now moved back into defence, with Delaney off the field, and Nichols moving into the striking role DK had previously occupied. Credit to the Lions who are really harassing and hurrying the Zebras players well whenever they are in possession.

23′ Manuela with a header from corner that is on target, but doesn’t have enough to get past Cook.

20′ Nearly an immediate response as Fulton gets in behind the lines and fires one that is straight into the hands of Gardner.

19′ GOAL 1-0! Laura Davis steps up and coolly dispatches the spot kick into the bottom right corner.

18′ PENALTY! De Smit  is hacked down in the box and the Lions have the chance to open the scoring.

15′ A pretty even opening 15 minutes to this contest, the Zebras looking a little disjointed which is unsurprising given there are so many new faces.

13′ A long range bomb from Rand is easily caught.

12’The Zebras are warming to the task and starting to get some play in and around the Lions penalty area. Gardner pounces on a lose ball

9′ First major chance of the game falls to Kannegieser as she gets in behind the lines but she fires at Gardner who gets down and saves well.

4′ An early corner leads to a half chance for the Lions but its repelled. Kingborough with a bright start.

1’Underway, perfect night for football here at the Den.

A spot in the Cup final awaits the victor of this final group stage game of the Women’s Summer Cup, as the Lions host the Zebras for the right to take on Olympia in Saturday’s decider. Both sides have the maximum 6 points through 2 match-day’s with wins over Ulverstone and Clarence. As the penalty shootout bonus point rule is in effect for the Summer Cup, goal difference is irrelevant. If we are tied after 90 minutes then a shootout will determine who advances, making this a virtual semi final.
