Full Time: Olympia 2-1 Launceston City

90+3′ Giantsopoulos! Again comes up huge, Nkoso beat the offside trap, strolled in on goal but can’t get it past the Canadian who saves sharply to his right.

90+1′ Wadawu nearly sneaks another one late, somehow got away with a foul in the build up, and then tried to chip one past Giantsopoulos who blocks it.

90′ Shot blocked! Linger absolutely smokes a volley that is on target, but there were so many bodies in the way, think his own man blocked the shot.

86′ GOAL! 2-1! Olympia! Nkoso with a bullet finish, but give all the credit to Hugh Undy, some magic on the byline on the right hand side, beats a defender then plays the perfect cross!

84′ SUB- Thorne replaces Dyer

81′ Lucas Hill plays a sublime raking ball from deep in his own defence, right up to opposite corner and into the path of Nkoso. Egan puts in behind, but that was a gem of a pass.

76′ Brilliant defensive play from Little at full strength to stop the ball reaching Linger after a good City attack down the right wing.

71′ Fischer slides it through to Syson who drives one that Johnson parries away well. Their best chance of the half, coming against the run of play, with the Warriors well on top, but finding the go ahead goal tough to find.

70′ Nkoso does brilliantly to lob the ball past a defender then smashing the volley at goal, but again Giantsopoulos stands firm.

69′ SUB- Wicks replaced by Goold. Looks like Linger will push on into attack into the spot Wicks had been playing.

63′ SUB- Hugh Undy makes his return, replacing Griffiths.

62′ SAVED! Niko does it again! Not a great penalty from Stevens, lacking power and Nicky G flings himself to his left and keeps it out.

61′ PENALTY! Looked well outside of the box, but I am guessing the fouling began inside, either way, Hill gets brought down quite clearly and the Warriors have the chance.

60′ Wadawu gets the better of Linger and from the angle tries to pick out the far post, takes a slight deflection and is narrowly wide for a corner.

56′ Wadawu skips into space cleverly, but then drives a long range shot straight at Giantsopoulos

54′ Millington wins the header from Fischer’s corner but Ortmann has the back post covered.

51′ Wadawu volleys wide of the mark at the back post.

50′ First chance of the half comes the way of the Warriors as Nkoso runs onto one, can’t quite bring under his spell though and Millington/Egan get back to force him wide and eventually Campbell knocks him off the ball.

Half Time: Olympia 1-1 Launceston City

45+1′ Syson curls a free kick wide of the post from 25 yards out, half time surely not far away.

45′ Olympia in control at the moment, having a lot more of the ball and are getting plenty of balls into the penalty area. City’s best moments have come on the counter via the pace of Fischer.

37′ Just over the bar! A wonderful ball from Castaneda is volleyed just over the top by Nkoso. Quality scoring look, wonderfully crafted ball.

36′ Millington charges down Ortmann to block his shot when he looked set to rifle one home from the box.

35′ Sammut tries his luck from a tight angle but Giantsopoulos shuts it down at the near post.

34′ GOAL! 1-1! Castaneda! He turns at the top of the box and quickly gets the shot off, Giantsopoulos gets a hand to it but can’t keep it out and it sneaks in!

31′ Fischer burns off Holmes again and charges in 1 v 1, he tries to slide it between the legs again, and this time Johnson gets just enough of it to send it wide.

29′ Little heads wide as he gets picked out at the back post.

23′ Huge save Giantsopolous! At full extension he denies a header that came about from a Castaneda free kick.

20′ A good end to end flow to the game, but the chances certainly aren’t flowing.

13′ Castaneda chips a free to the back post, Hill nods back across the face and Egan is forced to put it behind for a corner.

11′ SUB- Dyer comes on for the injured Mies.

10′ Noah Mies pulls up proppy and grabs his groin, immediately makes the sub signal to the bench, big blow for City this.

8′ GOAL! 1-0 City! A lobbed ball over the top allows Fischer to outpace the defence, stream in on goal and smash it between the keepers legs.

5′ No decent early chances here with a couple of half hearted shots apiece. City maybe just shading possession, but no clear dominant side

1′ Kick off, underway at 2:06pm

Olympia: Johnson, Holmes, Hill, Little, Sammut, Griffiths, Ortmann, Stevens, Castaneda,  Nkoso,Wadawu SUBS- Curtis, Murfitt, Smithies-Sharples, Undy

Launceston City begins their brutal final month of the season by taking on Olympia at Warrior Park. With South Hobart playing Devonport, City may well have the chance to make up some ground. Even if they were to run the gauntlet and win their remaining games, they will still need somebody else to defeat Devonport, and given South are surely the most likely candidate to do that, this truly is a massive weekend for them. If they don’t take care of business against Olympia it is all irrelevant however, and the Warriors at their best can certainly push them. Gordy Gurson may have departed but Hugh Undy comes back into the fold and the past fortnight has seen some improved performances, which they will need to produce again to have a chance against a City side that has beaten them 2-0 and 4-1 already this year.
