Strikers storm into Lakoseljac Cup final

Match report by Tanner Coad.

The Devonport Strikers have advanced to the final of the Lakoseljac Cup in resounding fashion with an 8-0 walloping over Taroona at Kelvedon Park.

Devonport had the majority of the chances in the opening minutes, but to their credit Taroona defended very well with Dominic Easton and Samuel Johnson holding the line. Connor Parke finally got the breakthrough before the break after coolly tapping in past the keeper.

Interestingly, Strikers captain Joel Stone brought his the team into a huddle immediately afterwards, saying “this isn’t good enough, keep going hard!” Sure enough after that, Daniel Syson and Eddie Bidwell both scored in quick succession to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Miles Barnard scored a brace in the second-half, showing no signs of his injury from last weekend against South. He copped a heavy knock in that game at D’Arcy St and had to be subbed off late. With Toby Barton and Brodie Denehey all converting before the 90 minutes were up, Charles Bidwell finished things with a goal in stoppage time marking one huge day for the Strikers.

Devonport will now play NPL Tasmania ladder leaders Glenorchy in the Lakoseljac Cup final, in what should be a fantastic contest. Higher stakes will be up for grabs with the winner not only taking home the cup, but also becoming Tasmania’s FFA Cup representative for the round of 32.
