Preview:

Two teams struggling to find form in the MyState Women’s Super League will have the chance to bounce back in the Statewide Cup. Kingborough were winners in the last round of the WSL, but that snapped a run of three games without a win. It took a fantastic Laura Davis goal to earn that win over South Hobart, and as her side’s leading scorer in the cup she will need to lead the way here as well. Their run to the Summer Cup final showed what they can do when at their best and raised expectations and a cup final berth would go some way to alleviating the pressure on them. Their cup run so far has been a rollercoaster ride as they were given a major scare by both Devonport and University, but coming back in those games shows they can’t be counted out even if they fall behind early here. Launceston United emerged as a WSL title threat early in the season, but they have now lost back-to-back games for the first time this year. Their last win did come against Kingborough in round six, and that result should give them plenty of confidence here. Jessica Robinson was outstanding in that game with three goals, and while another hat-trick might be too much to ask, she will be an important player once again.

Key player: Danielle Kannegiesser, Kingborough Lions

The former Clarence Zebra has played in plenty of big games in her career, and she has performed well in most of them. She is now a senior player on a Kingborough team that needs leadership and there’s no reason to believe she won’t excel under pressure once again.

Preview:

This has long been the marquee matchup on the WSL calendar, and now Olympia and the Clarence Zebras will once again meet in a blockbuster clash. Despite one of the most even seasons in some time, they still sit first and second on the league table and enter this game in winning form. The Zebras are undefeated in their last seven games going all the way back to round one of the WSL season, and they enjoyed a comfortable win in the cup quarter-finals. A 9-0 win over Taroona last week should give them plenty of confidence, as would their last game against Olympia, a 2-1 win at Warrior Park. That remains the only loss for the Warriors this season and they would surely be desperate to rectify that in the do-or-die setting of the cup. They should be fresh and well-rested after a bye in the last round of the WSL, and they will return to a parochial home crowd that always makes their presence known. Madi Chambers and Mia Cane form one of the most dangerous forward duos in the league, and with five goals apiece in the league they both come into this game in top form.

Key player: Sophie Fone, Clarence Zebras

The Zebras have plenty of attacking weapons in their lineup, but Fone has emerged as one of their most consistent performers. With four goals of her own and plenty of assists, she has the potential to win games like these for the Zebras in a variety of ways.
