The 2019 senior preseason is underway as the first matchday of the group stage took place at KGV on Saturday.

South Hobart made a strong start to the season, as a second half surge saw them overcome Taroona in the opening game of the day. After a first half that saw the game tied at 0-0, two goals in the space of 3 minutes, one from Pishon Choi and another from Mary Coy turned the game. That duo would score again later in the half, as both ended with braces and South a comfortable 4-0 victory. It wasn’t all good news for South though, with star striker Phoebe Djakic succumbing to what appeared a serious knee injury that could lead to an extended stint on the sidelines.

In the second game it was all one way traffic as Olympia flexed their muscle and hit seven past Beachside in a comfortable 7-0 win. Heather Russell scored a first half brace and Madi Chambers also got involved in the scoring to make it 3-0 at the half. Things got even better for the Warriors in the second stanza, as a brace from Olivia Bomford and goals from Williams and Mamic ensured the big win.

With Ulverstone forfeiting their game against Kingborough, making progression from the group extremely difficult, it was Zebras and Clarence who brought the day to a close.

In that game, it was the Hobart Zebras who showed off their new look front line that is set to make them one of the more potent sides in the league. Isabelle Ferrier marked her competitive debut for the club with a goal and Zoe Nichols doubled that lead before the half. The returning Allie Berry put the cherry on top with a second half brace and the Zebras began 2019, looking more like the side that was so dominant in 2017, than it’s 2018 iteration.
